Historic moment
Aug 2021
Historic site, small but interesting. It's ancient and after what it has been through, it's still there and we can visit it.
Great.

D53 : The Second Largest Grave
Sep 2020
D53 with almost 19 m length and 4,5 m wide is quite a large grave. D53 is one of the largest grave that still have complete capstone and even the gate stone with its capstone. It's located along the road so it's also accessible for wheelchairs. The parking place is big enough even there's a lot parking place special for disables. On the other side of the road, 150 m to the east, there is another grave, D54. It might be very crowded because it's easily accessible and it's worth a visit.

Dolmen or playground?
Sep 2019 • Family
We visited the site on sunday afternoon. It was full of children climbing on it. I have to say this doesn't help to give to the site the importance it should have.
The structure is big and impressive but as explained in the panels it was refurbished or rebuilt after wwii and it is possible to see the concrete between the stones.
I saw much better preserved prehistoric dolmen in europe.
I would no drive here for these, but if you are in the area it is a nice stop.

Interesting dolmen

This is a huge dolmen. Good for exploring: you can even get inside it. There is a useful interpretation board nearby, including information about wartime matters

Who knew this was here? I sure didn't
Nov 2015
On a quick visit to Friesland, we stopped by D53 and D54. I didn't know what to expect, and really it is not a location which requires a lot of time, unless you visit the meadows nearby (which I didn't). But this is a pretty unusual place and one I am very glad I was able to see.

Hunebed and its surroundings
Sep 2014 • Solo
D53 is a very well preserved/restored hunebed. You can park your car within a 100 meters. The hunebed is a good example and lying in the middle of an area where you can enjoy beautiful walks!

Nice to visit the graves of the farmer people in the Netherlands, 3.500 years ago. In a beautiful scenery.
