Nice tour by a sweet volunteer Guide. Interesting to see what the architect of the Lanier House did with the limited space in his own house. Not tons of info here, but worth the $ and the support to the Historical Group.

Thanks for visiting our Costigan House site. It is an unusual house built by Costigan. We have very little on the man and his family, but lots on the buildings that he designed and may have had a part of building as well.

This home was amazing. Every inch was utilized including the pocket front door. The tour guide enhanced our tour with her friendliness and knowledge. If you visit, look for the swing gate.

An interesting house that is definitely a period piece. Nicely furnished. Our guide was friendly and very nice but not as knowable as would have liked.

We visited all the mansions in Madison and this was our favorite. It's not just another old house full of old furniture. This place is a masterpiece of design and style built by a genius. The docent was knowledgeable and friendly man. It's nice to...More

Francis Costigan was a prominent architect in Madison in the 19th century, and more than a dozen homes and a major church of his design still stand in the city's historic district. This particular house was built for his own family over 150 years ago,...More

It was one of the historical museum houses that was on the 2013 Christmas tour of homes and it is considered a architectural masterpiece of how fit a wonderful home into a very narrow lot.

I'm a local who visits HMI properties with house guests at least monthly if not more often. I sometimes stand outside waiting to avoid paying full price for a tour I know by heart. Lots of tourist towns offer a discount for locals to encourage...More

House is furnished with period furniture and wallpaper and paint is what would have been used in the home in the 1800s. It features at least two curved doorways which are really unusual. If you can make the tour during the Nights Before Christmas (last...More

Did you find information on your home? Just checking to see as I am sure you did. Much historical research can be found at the JCHS Archives as well as the upstairs of the library on Main.
