About
Family owned and operated since 1883. We have a variety of apples, peaches, and other produce. The orchard also has a petting zoo, fresh cider, pick your own pumpkins/apples, and a variety of family friendly adventures. The Dougherty family is also happy to announce that we are beginning the development of a new grove of apple trees.

poor organization and very poor animal care
Oct 2019
We visited 10/13 with family. Our grandkids wanted to get pumpkins, see the animals and get a treat. Sounded like a great idea for a Sunday afternoon. For the amount of people that visit Dougherty Orchards the organization of paying for food, apples, pumpkins and visiting the "petting zoo" was confusing to say the least. 2 lines going into the building and 1 line for the "animal food" . No signs telling you where to go for what. Then there is what they call a petting zoo which was beyond deplorable for those poor animals. Dirty pens, no fresh water and dirty animals. The animals were fed seeds and corn in an ice cream cone from the visitors and it seemed as though that was the only food they had. They had a kangaroo as well . I wonder where they tend to it during the winter months. However it seemed as though most people were unaware of the conditions and were enjoying their day. I guess they just weren't paying attention. Parking and restroom facilities were also a challenge.

Great business

My wife and I stopped by to pick up some apples, cider, and donuts, and were surprised by everything else they had to offer. The petting zoo looks awesome for kids, and they offer a lot for food options in their store. We did not u-pick, but enjoyed our time there!

Had a great time
Sep 2018 • Family
Took my daughter and her friend. We had a lot of fun. The animals were very neat and for the most part I thought their enclosures were big enough. We took a tractor ride through the orchard and got to each pick an Apple. We shared a yummy apple dumpling with ice cream!

Fun place for kids

Great place to stop in the fall months, nice little petting zoo with many different animals. The orchard, zoo, and small eatery make this a nice spot to spend a few hours with the family. After feeding the animals and walking around the pond we stopped at the eatery for ice cream and cider. You can pick your own apples or buy a bag already picked. Staff is very pleasant and helpful.

A HIDDEN HOOSIER GEM
Oct 2016 • Couples
We had heard about this place and, altho it is hard to find, it is worth the effort. It is about twelve miles west of Richmond, Indiana, and three miles north of U.S.40. Fortunately they have a WEBsite. They have a large selection of apples and they have plenty of workers. They have some of the best apple cider that I have ever had, with free samples of course. They also sell their own apple wine but without samples for it. It is reasonably priced so I bought a bottle. The highlight of the visit was their petting zoo. It costs only a dollar per person and animal feed is sold separately. The kids love to pet the animals, who always seem hungry. This place is hidden BUT it definitely is worth the effort to find.

An apple a day
Sep 2016 • Couples
We traveled from Anderson In to visit this orchard. It made a nice afternoon trip. The employees were friendly. The apples were good and plentiful. The homemade apple donuts are good but a bit pricey. There are things to do for the entire family. We will return.

Excellent Place for family to enjoy outdoor fun!! <3

My daughter, grand daughter and I made a trip to the orchard today because she wanted to be the first to take her 16 month old niece to the orchard. It has been something I have done with my own children since they were little and am very much enjoying passing this tradition on with the grand kids!!

We always enjoy the fresh cider and the petting zoo is always fun for the kids. the minimal fee of $1 per person for the petting zoo is cheap for any family to attend. We will continue our annual trips there!!!!

FAMILY FUN
Sep 2014 • Family
We took our kids (31 & 25) just last weekend and their 6 children to this Orchard and we had a blast. The grandkids ranged from 15 months to 7 years old. They loved everything about it, the petting zoo, the ride, the apple picking to eating popcorn and drinking the refreshing apple cider slushy. The only thing we regret is we never got around to the warm apple donuts:(, they smelled so good. We were there for a good 2 hours and stayed busy the whole time. they have a medium sized store to shop in and buy pre-picked apples, candy, honey, etc.. all in all it was a great family outing and we'll do it again every year. thanks to the orchard for making it a great experience for all of us!

of course you are correct to be concerned but what about all that anger. calm down a little bit. we locals have always loved this orchard and in recent past the family has suffered loss of parents and grandparents alike and if not mistaken the orchard almost closed at one point. they are a new generation trying to retain and maintain. if you were truly concerned in stead of venting and threatening on line why not speak to someone on the spot? why not offer to help rather than "blame". why not have a positive effect yourself ? did you offer your knowledge and experience? did you bother to ask questions at the time? sounds like not. this young generation of owners have been through a lot and are making a valid attempt at managing. they have a great future there and could have used your support rather than backstabbing. the community is behind them 100% and we want the family to know that !

Poor Care of Animals. Poor customer interaction in Social Media
Sep 2013 • Family
i am horrified with this Orchard!!!! If you are going to use animals to draw in customers than you need to know ANIMAL HUSBANDRY. I was at your orchard today and discovered a DEAD RABBIT in your rabbit display. The NUMBER ONE ENEMY OF RABBITS IS THE HEAT!!!!! You have no shade, no constant source of fresh, cold water (a misting system would be great if no shade) and for shade you have used a METAL CULVERT. For God's sake, this is metal. And metal attracts HEAT!!!!! Get the picture. I know the dead rabbit died from heat stroke as it topped above 90 degrees. I am contacting the SPCA as I was advised local agencies would do nothing. This is animal abuse and cruelty. As having raised show rabbits for over a decade and having a degree in animal husbandry, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You have an obligation to know what you are doing and to do it correctly.

Instaed of addressing the concern they have not responded and placed blame. This is a continued pattern as you can see on the facebook page where they ignore customer inquires then blame" someone" else.
