The historic Genesee Theatre is a 2,400 seat entertainment venue located in Waukegan, Illinois. Located along the northern shore of Lake Michigan between Chicago and Milwaukee, the Genesee Theatre is a hub of activity for Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. Hosting a variety of music, comedy, and dance, the Genesee marks Waukegan as a destination for high-quality entertainment once reserved for major cities. The Genesee was built in 1927 as a vaudeville stage and movie palace before being restored in 2004 to its modern glory as a live entertainment venue boasting one of the largest stages in the Midwest, an acoustically dynamic auditorium, and a beautifully restored grand lobby for intimate and elegant events.

The best theater for live performances as well as concerts. It is beautiful and elk kept. For a night or or a date night is a perfect spot worth lots of different shows.

We probably see 8-10 shows here a year. Most of the seats are good although at a recent show the ones to the side were partially blocked by speakers, and this had never happened before. Sometimes the ushers get a little carried away with policing...More

We come here every year for the Dancenter North production of The Nutcracker. Love the theater. The staff is very professional. We just got tickets to see Michael Carbonara as well. My only complaint is the neighborhood, which is sort of sketchy. If this theater...More

Great history behind this theater. Beautiful Marquee...grab a show if you can. Some big names have played the stage. If you find yourself in the Waukegan Area check out to see who is playing there. Apparently there is some legends of haunted history!

Came to the Genesee Theater for the first time to see Tim Allen. Was not disappointed with the show or the venue. Our seats were actually in the last row of the balcony, and yet the view was great. Restrooms were modern, clean and in...More

I love seeing shows at the Genesee. The seating, sound and stage are on par with or better than any of the downtown Chicago venues. The personnel are friendly; many are volunteers. Even the washrooms are nice: more like you'd find in a hotel than...More

The Genesee Theatre is a exquisite inside! There is not a bad seat in the house. I have seen MANY shows over the years and have enjoyed everyone. It gets a bad rap being in Waukegan, but I totally disagree. As with any community, Waukegan...More
