About
Valaste Waterfall situated on the Ontika Limestone Cliff is the highest in Estonia with its fall of 30 metres. The waterfall shows its more rebellious side of nature in springs and during the high water season. In summer and during the dry period you can only see the groundwater oozing out from between different layers. The waterfall is particularly picturesque in winter, when the combination of northerly winds blowing from the sea and the sprinkles of water create a real ice castle on the trees on the precipice. The Ontika Limestone Cliff is the highest spot on the famous 1100-kilometre-long Baltic Klint that runs from the island of Oland in Sweden to the vicinity of Lake Ladoga in Russia.

There was a brand new looking staircase for viewing, and it was accessable even though there is no winter maintanance. Obviously it is not the largest waterfall in the world but we found it impressive, particularly with the surrounding ice formations. Worth the stop if you are around the area.

The stairs and hiking trail around waterfall is renovated. Mesh wiring stairs were frightening on top. Summer probably not the best season to visit, water levels seemned low, but the limestone cliffs surrounding it wew beautiful nevertheless.

The waterfall itself is not very interesting at this time of the year, but it is nice to descend the stairs to the beach and to climb up again. There is a small café opposite the parking lot.

The track along waterfall is renovated and you can go down to the beach and walk along sea. Waterfall does not look so amaizing and powerful on photos. Must see it. Very beautiful.

It is just about 10-15 km from the way from St Petersburg to Tallinn and has a small restaurant and hotel right in 50 meters from it.
The waterfall itself is just a tiny stream but it falling down from the height of 30 meters so it is highest waterfall in Estonia.
Nice view to The Gulf of Finland especially if the weather is good enough

Unfortunately it was closed and looked like it had been for a while. There was a gated fixed at the top. The bridge had a large chunk missing from it so I don't suppose it will be open soon. You could still just about see the waterfall so it's probably worth the short detour if you are heading to/from Narva

Just travelling by I wanted to take a look on the tallest waterfall in Estonia and the Baltics. I was almost dark already and just a little could be seen. The waterfall is amazing and I would really love to come back during the daytime. To my biggest surprise there was a 24/7 one cafeteria next to the waterfall. It was hard to believe to find such a place there!

The place is abandoned, despite it is beautiful and visitors still pass by to give it a try. Very sad to see no interest from Loodusega koos RMK or whomever authorities that should take care of this land mark. I would love to come back and see it revamped.

About 2 hour drive East from Tallinn(Narva direction), is Ontika. And there are Valaste Waterfall, which is highest waterfall in Estonia, way over 30 metres. We were there in August and there weren't that much water coming down, but I'm sure that especially in winter time it is real beautiful. There "viewing deck" is closed, so it's little hard to see, from narrow little steps...especially if there are more than few people. Best view is from other side, but there aren't any rails/fences, so it is REAL dangerous to go there to have great photos. Path there was little muddy and slippery and fall down to the bottom is deadly. They also have little ice cream kiosk and (kind of a) restaurant that serves food/drinks. In thÃs area there aren't so much to do or see, so I recommend that You take a room from nice Ontika Manor 3km away and stay there for a night.
