This is where my family is buried, as all have served since the Civil War. This will be my eternal resting place too someday. My grandfather, Waldo Goetsch, was it's Superintendent. There is a beautiful Confederate Cemetary to honor the PWO's who died here in captivity. We are one Nation under God, indivisible...

Everything about this place said stay away!!! Had to go through a certain gate because no one in our party had any military affiliations. Then we had to drive around the base another 7-10 miles to go through visitor center. Went we got inside the visitor center we had to fill out a form with personal information (they did not... More

Getting to see the museum is not difficult but it is time consuming. You must enter at the Moline gate. The process can take 10 minutes per person but during business hours there may be a line. A picture ID is required. Once on the arsenal you will find the museum very interesting if you have any interest in the... More

There is not much here but really so much to see... especially if you walk. The grounds are beautiful, the history/buildings are regal and the cemetery will leave you in awe. The sacrifices of so many and so close to visit. A mini Arlington in our own backyard

I am a descendant of General Thomas Rodman and needed to visit the Rock Island Arsenal to see his gravestone, monument, and three of his cannons. I did not realize we hit the island on Columbus Day and several facilities were closed, but it is still a great visit. I had researched the history of the island, the Army history,... More

Boated through here on long round-trip river cruise with friends. Stayed at Sunset Marina (solid harbor but no other facilities) at southern end of Rock Island Arsenal. The Rock Island Lock was the finest of the dozen we passed through because its small boat lock was still open (all other auxiliary locks closed after Labor Day). . Wandered along the... More

The museum is a great way to spend a couple of hours. Though small it packs in a lot of history in interesting displays and film. If you have an interest in firearms and different types you will be pleasantly surprised at the size of their collection. It also contains restrooms and a gift shop. The best part is entrance... It was difficult getting on the island. Could not find the building for security clearance. That was a hassle and no one was really helpful on how to do this.

Never had heard of this place--found it in a visitor's center booklet. The only entrance open is the Moline entrance. You need to fill out a short form, show ID, and have officer run a quick background search to be granted a visitor's pass. Process went quickly. Visited the Rock Island Arsenal Museum and Lock 15. Husband loved the comprehensive... More
