I was disappointed it was closed during the week, when i was in town. I looked through the windows, it appeared pretty small, it's attached to the actual train station.

If your looking for a place to have a celebration, a wedding reception, graduation, etc...you won't be disappointed. There is plenty of unique scenery for pictures, with old and newer train cars, walk along the railroad tracks or take a tour of the museum. The reception room we were in, had plenty of seating inside and bistro style tables outside.... More

Great place for kids and adults like me who loved trains all my life. I think it is a donation entry with a lot to see and several model trains running. There are a couple real train cars there to go through. Really nice place. Something this community is not nearly proud enough of having available.

Nice small train museum. Has small indoor trains as well as pullman and caboose outside. A small donation of 2 dollars for adults as this is solely funded by the friends. All help is volunteer. Be sure to check to make sure there open, so you can get the full enjoyment of the museum.

These restored train cars are enjoyable to stroll thru. There is also a model train display that runs inside the Museum. The ticket office is still operational. Be sure to call ahead in that the station is run by volunteers and not open all the time. The City of New Orleans and the Green Diamond are just a few of... More

Make sure to call ahead. This is a very small museum run by volunteers. Lots of interesting history and run by very knowledgable and passionate historians. Can't wait to take our little train enthusiast back to see this. They also have quite a toy train collection and set up.

As the song says " the train pulls out of Kankakee......the Spirit of New Orleans ". Amtrak still runs 6 trains thru here daily. The museum is packed with incredible information, well kept, and has a wonderful volunteer staff. Definitely worth a visit, even for non-train buffs.

I grew up in Kankakee and remember taking the train to Chicago many times. The city has done a wonderful job in reviving the old train station and beautifying the area in a sparse downtown. Lovely location for photos as well.
