It's easy to blow right by this place, the sign and the entrance to the parking lot are set back from the street. I wanted to get outside and walk or hike even though today was cold and I ended up spending a good amount of time here. The forest preserve is big. A lot of geese and mallards (I... More

The Fabyan Japanese Garden is one of many enjoyable side trips when walking (or biking) along the Fox River. The garden is meticulously maintained and is worth the voluntary admission fee anytime it's open. Depending on the time of year, you may see flowers, frogs, birds and other wildlife. From there, it's an easy walk across the island bridges to... More

Stunning Japanese Gardens and surrounding garden areas are perfect for a leisurely walk or other outdoor activities. Tour of the mansion is especially interesting and is free. Nice for a Saturday or Sunday outing.

The park is a really nice place to walk around and let kids run. The gardens are unusual be not overly fancy. It is free so well worth getting out and enjoying the entire estate

There is a lot of history in the Fabyan Villa Museum and it and the Japanese Garden should really be on separate reviews as you pay to take the docent led villa museum but the gardens are free and well worth the time to see them. Be alerted that the Thurs hours for both locations are only in July and... More

I take visiting guest to this and everyone loves it, even if they are not Master Gardeners! The Villa is so interesting, as was Fabyan.

Great day trip- So much to see. The garden is beautiful, does have a tendency to be closed at odd time, however you are able to view the garden from outside the gate. The Villa museum is very interesting and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and the house across the street too (Across Rt. 25). The park around Fabyan... More

Gorgeous gardens. Take your camera! An amazing place. Unique site. Wander around and you will find wonderful spots to photograph. The Japanese gardens are lovely but there is a LOT more to see there. Make sure to walk across the bridge to the other side of the river to see the windmill. Picnic areas, huge trees. Truly a Northern Illinois... More

This is a hidden gem. Be sure to allow enough time to fully explore both the garden and windmill. Also be sure to come back when the seasons change, because the beauty of the garden changes with the seasons.

I love this area in particular because it's very well taken care of. The Japanese garden is exquisite. There is a minimal fee to visit the museums and the garden but totally worth it. Plenty of history if you walk around the preserve and read up on it. Lots of walking grounds, picnic areas, beautiful trees and plenty of parking.... More
