This Italianate-style brick house, with original furnishings, looks very much as it did in 1865 when a group of townspeople presented it as a gift to Ulysses S. Grant on his victorious return from the Civil War.

We stopped to tour the home that the Galena city fathers gave to U.S. & Julia Grant following the Civil War. It happened to be the 196th birthday of Pres. Grant, so we all got a birthday cookie! It was an interesting and informative journey...More

The tours of Grant's home are technically free, but the tour is worth the suggested donation. Volunteers do a great job with the tour and are extremely knowledgeable. It's a small space so be prepared to pack in. Bonus: my 2nd grader brought Flat Stanley...More

Fun to visit. Actors playing the part of the era. The home is furnished with original furniture. The home is smaller inside than it looks.
