This Italianate-style brick house, with original furnishings, looks very much as it did in 1865 when a group of townspeople presented it as a gift to Ulysses S. Grant on his victorious return from the Civil War.

Grant house a win!

Great local attraction- we learned a little something about American history and worked up an appetite to satiate later at Durty Girt's.

The Grant Home tour was excellent. Provided an in-depth history of the house along with the history of Ulysses Grant and his family. The house contains 90% of original furniture.

We stopped by to visit on our trip home to Houston from Chicago. Our guide Kathleen was very pleasant and knowledgeable, as expected, and was obviously comfortable sharing all she knew about this historic home with us. As she said, since the stair banister was original it was awesome holding on to the same as General Grant and his family... More

A fun and educational tour. Knowledgeable docents. Worth the visit. At least one time we arrived at the end of the day. Takes about 30 to 60 minutes.

We enjoyed our guided tour of the Grant home. There are many original artifacts and great details of the Grants. Admission is free but donations welcome. Lovely garden too.

If you love seeing historical homes it is enjoyable look into living in the late 1800's. home and decor. I appreciate that 90% of the furnishings actually belong to the family and the Civil War encampment in the park across the street was a bonus Very interesting and fun

Make sure you have comfortable shoes. We walked from Main Street and boy, this is nestled up on top of a looooong hill. They offer tours but we did not partake.
