Came for the MLK holiday weekend to see Peter Asher's Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond. Wow! The show was truly fabulous and the hall was just perfect for this type of show. Tickets were very reasonable and the staff was great, too. The house manager even helped me with some memorabilia I'd brought along. All in all, a... More

Really unique performances--from classic folk rock to world music--in an intimate venue. Not expensive. Room to dance. Beer and snacks. Plus you can take classes, too! Unique.

Remember the 80s movie and spin off tv show "Fame"? Well here you can live the dream. While I lived in Chicago I took classes here in acting, singing, dancing, and several instruments. I really got to explore my artistic liberal arts side after spending my life studying science and medicine. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to... More

Their main theater on the west side of the street is a great small venue for a concert. There are good views of the stage downstairs and up. Very good acoustics. Just went there for the first time but will be sure to go again even though I don't live all that close.

The venue is ran by music lovers. I think most of the people running the place are volunteers and are thrilled to be there. There is not a bad seat in the house. I wish I lived closer so I could go to more shows.

You never know who will be at the Old Town School's main auditorium. One week, it's slack key guitar artists from Hawaii, and the next, it's a great Bluegrass group from North Carolina. Excellent acoustics and sight lines at this venue. (I have not visited the newer hall for the school across the street, which apparently plays lesser known artists.)... More

The school of folk music offers regular concerts. Some are worthwhile, and some have very good performers. John McCutcheon, Tom Paxton, and other greats from the folk era of the 60s and 70s still perform. What's more, they can still song! Last Saturday's performance with Anais Mitchell was a joke. Not only does she sing like Tinkerbelll as she tries... More

The Old Town School of Folk Music has contributed volumes to the American and World Folk music scene in Chicago and beyond. The support and appreciation that it provides not only for seasoned performers but for up and coming performers and students is beyond measure. Go to a performance, take a class, support this wonderful venue and school!
