Kathy Osterman was Alderman for Chicago's 48 Ward from 1987-1989, which included the Edgewater neighborhood, as well as parts of the Uptown neighborhood. She was then appointed, Director of the Mayor's Office of Special Events. Named in her honor, Osterman Beach sits at the north end of Lake Shore Drive in the Edgewater neighborhood. Beautiful beach! Its peaceful also, and water calm. Lucky me, i get to see it everytime i enter the Lakefront trail to start my run or bike rides. And great place to watch the sunrise.

This is a beautiful beach on Lake Michegan (which is that big it looks more like an ocean). Nice little beach bar, golden sand, wifi! Loved it! Great way to spend a day on a not too crowded beach. Worth the train ride out of town

This is a great alternative to the beaches (near the) downtown (area). It's not crowded at all and has restrooms, a place to eat and sometime there's music too. The north side of the beach is where the families are at, the south part is a gay part where mostly gay guys are. From Downtown, take the 147 to Ardmore,... More

Visiting family nearby, we walked to the Kathy Osterman Beach for a day in the sun. Its a very nice beach. Not too crowded. There is a playground at the far end, so most people with children were concentrated in that area, while the other end was filled mainly with adults. There is a cafe and bar which is very... More

This is a very nice beach, free, with concessions available during the summer. There are a couple of life guards on duty. Although busy on hot summer days, it's not packed. There is no parking, however, so you have to park a couple blocks away in a neighborhood or you can take the Red Line L train to Bryn Mawr... More

This crescent-shaped beach is at the northern end of Lincoln Park, where Lake Shore Drive curves and ends, and joins Sheridan Road. Not heavily frequented for some years, the beach is seeing increased popularity. Access to the beach is limited to foot-traffic, because there's no parking and really no nearby parking. You can reach the beach on public transportation, by... More

Staying in Streeterville

Neighbourhood Profile
Streeterville
Streeterville is where visitors head for play at Navy Pier, a pseudo amusement park and development of restaurants, shops, rides, and other activities. You’ll find lots of action and excitement on the docks. Along the pier, you’ll see the statue of the captain for whom Streeterville is named. While you enjoy your fair share of sightseeing at the pier, you can also visit other popular attractions there such as the Chicago Children’s Museum and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Off the pier you’ll find more restaurants from low-cost pubs to high-end establishments. Arts and culture aficionados should be sure not to miss the Museum of Contemporary Art.
