It is a small art museum on the University of Chicago campus and free admission. They do have a lot of art (shown on their website) but only a small portion is on display. We took their tour and had a very knowledgeable and friendly...More
Its my neighborhood art museum. Simply love this place. Not as famous and doesn't have the collection of the MCA or the Art Institute but really has a nice feel. The staff is happy to see you and thrilled to share their knowledge with you....More
It's nothing! Only 4 galleries are open, the others are under repairment. Most of their collections are not on view. The exhibition is poor. Finished in 10 minutes. Not worth the $12 parking and the lengthy driving in traffic jam. What a disappointment!
this is a small museum on the campus. clearly, the staff devote great efforts to having an environment for teaching and research, but they also serve the community with items of interest to students in public school. there are items of interest at many levels....More
It is a small museum on the campus but it is free. It had several rooms of various contemporary art pieces, a special quilting display that is actually hands on and also a Russian / Socialist historical posters and propaganda showing that was very educating.
I'll start this by saying that I am not overly fond of the modern art movement so you may enjoy this museum more if you are. That said, the museum is actually a lot closer to a gallery. There's nothing wrong with that, just don't...More

The eclectic but impressive collection will surprise you given the comparatively limited space at Smart compared to the Art Institute, for example. However, the pieces on display from the permanent collection are virtually all gems. Bonus: you'll never be overwhelmed by the sheer size of...More
When we visited, the Museum had galleries devoted to Modern Art, to Classicism past and present, and to Asian art. There was also a special exhibit of a German Fluxus artist. I found the curation enjoyably educational; no doubt U of Chicago art professors have...More
If you want to get a feel for quintessential South Side Chicago, you have to make a stop in Hyde Park, one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. This historic area is home to two of the city’s most prominent cultural institutions, the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago. A stroll here will bring you past vintage and grand hotels converted into luxury apartment buildings; peaceful
gardens, parks and green spaces; and ivy-adorned museums and other cultural institutions that speak to the city’s diversity and architectural beauty.
