You'll feel like you are in a movie, when you head to this parade. It is enchanting. Security was awesome. Intersecting roads were blocked from traffic with heavy equipment like trash trucks. All the best stores sit along the Magnificent Mile. A shopper's dream!

I was really impressed with Madison Ave. It is a welcoming downtown site with its many stores ( the best one can ask for)...the many containers of beautiful flowers along the avenue and the width of the street. No one is rushing and one can see the best of Chicago.Great shops and restaurants along the way.

Every major city in the US seems to have one of them...a street lined with over priced stores....so if that your thing....well this is as good as any. If you are pressed for time...you can skip this and nit regret it.

The Mag Mile is Chicago's premier shopping, dining and entertaining area. It runs (on Michigan Ave) pretty much from Oak Street at the north down to the Chicago River. Think 5th Ave abbreviated in Manhattan--that feel. This is generally regarded as a safe area of the city and great area to find awesome hotels and restaurants. Some of the city's... More

Full disclosure, I don't enjoy shopping in the least. I don't like it generally. But this is a very walkable, scenic although busy and chaotic walk. We walked through on our way from our hotel (Park Hyatt) to a restaurant, around 5:30 on a Saturday. At that point, it was crowded, loud people were starting to come out (we had... More

Wife and I visited twice during our stay, plenty of shops of every type, lots of local history in the buildings. Many businesses were having sales and several offer military discounts.

Neighbourhood Profile
Magnificent Mile
Over 400 stores pack the concrete along Michigan Avenue, the eight-block stretch known as Magnificent Mile. This area between Oak Avenue and the Chicago River is more a shopping paradise than a full-out neighborhood. For prime upscale shopping, this is the place to go. It’s busy, energetic, and packed with shoppers. You'll also find hundreds of restaurants and dozens of hotels, all on the mid- to high-end scale. Some of the city’s most iconic buildings like the Wrigley Building, John Hancock Center and other architectural marvels define the magnificence of this neighborhood.
