It’s Beaux Art style reflects the marvels of past architecture but the uniqueness is walking around the building and seeing the facade covered with historic pieces from other buildings and landmarks from around the world

Tribute Tower is an interesting historic skyscraper that fit within the Chicago Skyline at the south end of the Magnificent Mile and Chicago River. Built between 1923-25, this is a 36 floor skyscraper with elaborate Neo-Gothic features from top to bottom.

One of the most interesting aspects of the Tribute Tower are the embedded fragments from many historic and important landmark buildings and structures from around the world including the Parthenon (Greece), Great Pyramid (Egypt), Angkor Wat (Cambodia), Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal (India) and Westminster (England) amongst many others. This makes for a fun bit of sightseeing in addition to viewing the Neo-Gothic building characteristics.

I had heard about all the stones embedded in the exterior walls of the Tribune Tower and walking around the building discovering them on my own did not disappoint.

The neo-gothic tower on the banks of the Chicago River on the bottom end of the Magnificent Mile is a great example of early 20th Century architecture. Again, Chicago has amazing examples of every architecture, especially on the river and this combined with the Wrigley building are the city's best examples of neo-gothic. Where the Tribute Tower really distinguishes itself with its slender verticality topped by the buttress tower. It is a modern gothic temple to media and for nearly 100 years it has been the of an American publishing giant. Of course today media has changed, certainly newspapers but the building is a testament to longevity of media in Chicago.

This Building is iconic as it is beautiful. I walked around the building and took pictures of every rock or artifact that was embedded into the exterior walls, there were several artifacts from places I've been to like the Rock from the Battle of Little Big Horn, or Scott Bluff just to name a few, but the real gem is the Big Map in the lobby. It appears to be three stories high. The Desk Staff are very professional but please obey the rules. This is a Residence Building so please respect their privacy. If you ask nice you may be allowed to take a picture of the Big Map. They just don't make buildings like this anymore.

As a former Tribster coming to work at the Tower was always uplifting. It made you feel “special”. It was truly one of a kind!

While Chicago has many other skyscrapers which are taller, shiner, bigger, more modern.....etc, the Tribune tower is a Chicago icon considering its age and style.
It was built 100 years ago (1923-25) in an amazing neo Gothic style. It has a fab location on the plaza just after the Dusable bridge, adding to its beauty.
Pay attention to unique worldwide stones embedded into its facade, each one is marked. Enter the lobby and admire it - further you cannot go.
Imo, it is the most elegant and stylish office bldg worldwide, along with the Chrysler bldg in NYC.

As of May 2021, the Tribune Tower is still under renovation and is closed to the public. The 1925 Gothic Revival icon can be enjoyed from the outside for its architectural grandeur and also for the 149 artifacts embedded in its street level exterior. The artifacts are chunks of rock and metal brought by tribune reporters from around the world, including steel from the Trade Towers. An April 2021 press release from the developers say the renovated building will open later in 2021 and include retail space and condos, but as I peer into the lobby area, I see bare crumbling concrete. Worth a visit if you are in the area, but don't make a special trip.

Tribune Tower - A true Masterpiece of Architecture and Art! Along with amazing Chicago Skyline, the Trib is one of the most striking and stunning pieces of architecture in Chicago. It does not matter how many times you pass by it, glance at it, or take a photo of it - there is always something you find that you missed the last time. It is a stunning building and worth a gaze and admiration!
