Colored rocks and mountains, the winding Salmon River, small communities along the way. Breathtaking scenery and almost no traffic.

Not only was the scenery beautiful, but the road surface was in good repair — on Idaho 75 north of Sun Valley, and on 93 to Salmon. The road’s twists and turns were easily navigated, even in our 40’ motorhome towing a car.

The Salmon River Scenic Byway is definitely a ride worth taking even if it isn't the most direct route for you...the vistas are beautiful, there is very little traffic and the river is mesmerizing. Be sure to pull off frequently and look around!

Traveling through the Salmon river scenic byways is inspiring. The country is magnificent as are the views. The Sawtooth mountains are a real plus as is the Stanley basin.

There aren't any steep mountain passes between Salmon and Challis (there are some north of Salmon). The section of US93 you are referring to is two-lane road that follows right along the edge of the Salmon River. It's very... More
