Buy a ticket for 2or3 days and hop on and off the vaporatto. Fantastic. Just enjoy the magnificent views from the lagoon. The people in the ticket office are very helpful. Wrap up well in winter as it was very cold.

We are flying to Milan, arriving in the morning, and then taking a train to Venice. We, this to use frequent flyer miles. When we get to the Venice train station, does anyone have any suggestions as to an easy and efficient way to get to our hotel which is the Hotel Canal Grande. I have heard horror stories about water taxi charges. I even thought of booking a short tour which get us to our destination. Any thoughts?
