Driving through Southwest Idaho, about 90 min from Boise, you will find the sole overlook of Bruneau Canyon, narrow, deep and beautiful. A river flows through at the bottom and flocks of birds soar far below where we stand. It is a quiet and peaceful...More

Family day trip. Amazing views of a beautiful canyon and prairie. Some of Idaho at its finest. We saw some wildlife and a few wildflowers and open sky as far as the eyes could see. Something that you should experience at least once.

About two hours or less from Boise, Idaho is Bruneau Canyon Overlook. A deep canyon with the Bruneau river way below and a powerful scenic overlook. Modernized somewhat now with guard railings, places to sit and observe as well as bathroom facilities (outhouse style) and...More

This canyon was noted as "Scenic and Deep Canyon" in the atlas and it is both. If you have the time, it is worth the stop. The drive out is dusty but easy and you feel like you're a long way from anywhere. There is...More

It is best to go in spring or fall as right now it is to hot to get on the dunes. The night time observing the stars and moon are wonderful.

For a brief moment as we crested the hill, I thought we were Thelma and Louise about to fly over the rim! Optical illusion of course, but with everything being so flat and coming upon this canyon out of the blue, it was breathtaking. I...More

As of right now, the road out to the Overlook is in great shape and the weather has been mild. Still an awesome sight even after multiple trips in all seasons. This is the first winter trip out for me. I would advise chains and...More

Driving to this location is remote, dusty and a bit on the uneasy side due to it location. You will pass along a dusty road that is part of the Airforce testing area. At the end of the road you will come to the end...More

Bruneau Canyon is 18 miles past Bruneau Dunes and six of those miles is gravel. Well worth the trip because there is a panoramic view of a deep canyon where the Bruneau River runs through it. You won't want to miss this added advantage to...More

I suggest you start with The Bureau of Land Management Idaho. Please note, for quite a distance the access road is gravel and there's not a lot of room at the parking area.
