The Back River beach is a slower paced area of Tybee. A place to truly enjoy laying out in the sun, swimming in clearer water, watching dolphins and kayaks go by and enjoying the sunset. Tybee faces the east but the back beach faces west,...More

I didn't enjoy this particular spot on the island for the simple fact it was overcrowded with people fishing from the pier and you constantly smelled the stench of bait and rotting fish/shrimp.

A MUST SEE for SUNSET. Minimal parking. Can go onto Alley 3 off 17th to park then walk down to watch the sunset BUT stay at least 30 minutes after sunset for the "HUES"....color amazing across the sky after sunset. Met nice residents very friendly....More

Growing up on Tybee I have seen many changes. The myriad of parking meters, Condo over crowding, and obstruction of beach views that has slowly reduced the charm Tybee once possessed. The Back River, as we all call it, still holds on to the charm...More

We sat on this beach and watched the sunset for about an hour tonight. The perfect end to our Thanksgiving day! It was very peaceful. There weren't very many people (although, to be fair it was Thanksgiving and it was windy and a bit chilly)....More
