The District has been and continues to be restored. The grounds are well maintained. We enjoyed just looking in the windows of the "cottages" where the rich and famous spent a few months in the winters. The historical markers were informative. The little gift shops...More

As newcomers to Jekyll I. we sought a general orientation before exploring in greater depth. The Tram/Tour was an excellent point of departure, literally and figuratively. Our guide possessed a lively, albeit state govt.-scripted parcel of facts and anecdotes. Plus multiple reminders to "stay seated...More

We went on the train/house tour and saw the turtle center while we were there. Many shops and places to eat or snack.

I love the history of Jekyl Island and wandering among the "cottages", the Clubhouse and the riverfront of the historic district. There is so much history associated with this island. Not only was it a hunting camp for the rich but the Federal Reserve was...More

The tram tour was included as part of our package. It has been raining earlier but they did a good job in drying the open air seats for us. We stopped a couple of places including Faith Chapel. Our tour guide gave us a lot...More

I can't say much about this part of the island, except all of it was absolutely gorgeous. I wish we would have been able to have a guided tour, so we could have learned all the history. I'm not sure if a tour is even...More

The area includes the Jekyll Island Club, some of the "cottages" and the riverfront area. It gives you a feeling of what the very rich people in the late 1800s and early 1900s experienced as a vacation destination.

This whole island is absolutely amazing. A great day trip if you want to see the sights! We stopped in on our way home from Savannah and I'm so glad we did. Driftwood beach is a must!

Is this somewhere we could we just walk around in the afternoon, see sights, browse shops, and have lunch on a Saturday afternoon?

Walking around and seeing sights, absolutely! They do have some shops, but I'm not sure about lunch. They have some snack shops, but no actual restaurant.
Hi, PasoWarrior. What would you like to know about this attraction? Did you rent bikes on the island? Where?

You can try airb&b to find independently owned cottages and condos & boats available for private rentals. Private rentals are also available through the realty companies. There are no traditional large b&b's on Jekyll.
