Huntington Castle is truly a unique and special place. It was built in the early 1600s and still occupied by the original family. The rooms are well appointed that makes for a very comfortable stay. The gardens are beautiful with old yew trees along the path as well as several peacocks to guide the way. We had a pint at the local pub as well as a wonderful dinner at Sha-Roe restaurant in town. It is an easy walk from the castle. Be sure to make a reservation in advance.

This place is very very disappointing for many reasons. Unfriendly tour guide with an attitude to family’s and in particular children, very rude. The gardens are run down and UNSAFE for children, with large drains along paths with no fencing. Gloomy gardens, unfriendly staff.

For the tour, the guide refused admittance of our buggy and said I should have been told there was no buggies. She was generally really surprisingly unfriendly towards our group in particular and I feel it was because we had children. She refused photographs too inside and gave out to people who already took them unknowingly. Just not a people person at all! Furthermore, I was invited to leave the castle tour early because my child was crying, which the tour guide highlighted to the group on many occasions, heightening our embarrassment and I was not offered a refund of any kind despite meeting the owner at the door who mumbled how it was a shame.

We decided to look for the playground which was a huge challenge given the sketchy map and lack of signposts. We had to cross a field of POO to get to it, shoes and buggy covered in the stuff. The playground was run down and generally UNSAFE. Do not recommend for children. Ramshackle huts almost collapsing over slides.
They charge €6 per adult and €3 for each of my children. There is a very definitive sign highlighting that you must PAY to use the playground which I found mean spirited and lacking foresight. How you treat your customers really matter. It seems the owners here only care about attracting tourists with positive reviews on here to get them there once at least.
The gardens are advertised as lush, and they really really suck. Zero planting, highly neglected, gloomy and depressing

So saddened by this place, that there are people in the world willing to misinform the public about what they are promising, and so rude in the process. While I understand it must be challenging for a family living in the castle to have the public walking through the place, but it doesn’t live up to its review on Tripadvisor and most certainly is not worth the fee in any capacity. The tour guide, poop playground and lack of ‘lush’ gardens really put us off. We won’t be back and we will not be recommending.

Highly surprised by all the raving reviews on here, as they clearly have been written about somewhere entirely different. It’s not a good place, spooky energy, grumpy people.

This in not a family friendly place, and we came away, upset and covered in poo. While there is a playground, it’s below par as you must wade across a field of sheep poo to get to it, not to mention a sketchy map and lack of signposting. We had great fun loading the car afterwards with a buggy covered in poo, not to mention our shoes. This was a serious amount of poo I had to bag the wheels of the buggy just to get it in without destroying the car. There is a very definitive sign dictating that the playground must be paid for before entering the poo field, which is something I found very unwelcoming towards families with children. Playgrounds should be an offering, in kindness, to facilitate childrens play, not a means of making money.
While the advertisement says lush gardens, in reality it is bleak. An afterthought, filled with the gloominess of dark yew trees. It really feels like it hasn’t been changed in a long time, as if the yew trees in their magnitude, had taken over, casting enormous shade over the gardens, with very little bulb planting, in fact very little design.

Spent three nights here in November 2021 with 2 friends. What an experience! Enjoyed every minute. The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. The gardens are beautiful with peacocks and exotic fowl wandering around minding their own business. The hosts were friendly and available, and offered great local knowledge. I will definitely return here and cannot recommend it too highly.

The gardens and castle are absolutely beautiful. There is beauty everywhere you look, both inside and outside the castle. You have no choice but to slow down and enjoy it! The owners and staff are so friendly and helpful and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough

Our one-night stay at Huntington Castle is our most memorable from our recent 11-day trip to Ireland. The owners, Alex and Claire, were so friendly and welcomed us into their family home. Do take advantage of the daily tours to learn about the history of the castle! We took a lengthy walk around the beautiful gardens and grounds at dusk, listening to the birds and admiring the countryside. We had the place to ourselves and could feel the history surrounding us. We slept soundly in our four-poster bed and thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast Claire made the next morning. Don't pass up a chance to stay here on your visit to Ireland!

Oh, and the treats available at the tea room open during the day are to-die-for! I personally loved the Millionaire Bar and got a couple to-go to eat later in the trip. We've been back for a week now and I'm still thinking about those Millionaire Bars....!

I cannot speak highly enough about an amazing weekend spent in Huntington Castle with a group of friends. Our weekend away was originally planned for October 2020 but had to be postponed due to the imposition of COVID travel restrictions.
From our first interaction, Alex couldn’t have been more helpful or accommodating. Any request I had was met with no issue & we were made to feel incredibly welcome. We were free to enjoy the full castle experience, including a very interesting tour of the castle conducted by Alex & his son Freddy. We had a private dining experience in the castle on Saturday night which was nothing short of exceptional.
If you are looking for an authentic castle experience you won’t find better than Huntington Castle.

This is a unique experience. The setting is beautiful, the grounds mature and well kept, and the castle a treasure trove of history.

We stayed one night , our host Alex, whose family have lived int her castle for almost 400 years, was lovely, and incredibly accommodating.

Our bedroom was very comfortable, and we had a four poster bed to boot!

I recommend the guided tour and a walk in the gardens.

There is also self catering apartment in the castle for those staying with friends or family.
