I would not go out my way to visit but if you are in town it can kill a few hours and the view from the castle is stunning.

Easygoing Sunday. Local history etc and nice coffee shop. Relax and walk the dog around surrounding woodland. Views are amazing from trig point on clear days.

Yeah there aren't many options nearby. Possibly check out in Ayr? I managed to get vegan ice cream from there the other day, the ice cream shop right in the town centre, Renaldo's.
