One of our favorite castle visits in Scotland. The coffee shop and visitor centre was fun to go through and enjoyed talking to the local people in the coffee shop.

We visited Dundonald Castle on a summer's afternoon. The castle has a fascinating history - the local volunteers who run the castle, its visitor centre and cafe are more than willing to tell its story, one that covers much of Scotland's early history. Scottish Heritage...More

Ona day out around Scotland we went to visit a few places our children could get a fell for the historic side of Scotland. As part of the day we made a visit to the castle ruins and by chance Archeologists were working too. The...More

Went on the day the owl and hawk were on rest leave. But, the vibe is terrific, and the visitor’s wee centre in full of infromation. Not to mention yummy hot chocolate. Fortify yourself and walk the steep slope and enjoy the castle and views.

Visited here on a rainy day, cafe gift shop and museum are crammed into a tiny building, car park was also small. Museum had some great models of the castle. The castle itself is way up on a steep path but worth the climb as...More

This is a fabulous small castle. Although there have been fortifications on the hill for hundreds of years the present castle was built by Robert II to celebrate his coronation in 1372. It looks like a ruin from the outside but inside there is still...More

Great place to spend an hour or two. My grand-daughters loved getting dressed up in the costumes provided to visit the castle. It's quite a steep climb up to the castle, but well worth the effort just to see the interior stonework, especially the ceiling....More

Hi John, thank you for your lovely review! We're glad you had such a great visit and enjoyed our costumers (which are mostly all handmade by one of our fantastic volunteers). We hope to see you again soon. Kind regards, Lauren.

It's quite a climb up to the front of the castle and the scaffolding for the current repair work was a little off-putting but when we got in and saw the lower hall it was amazing but we struggled to see how they could get...More

Yeah there aren't many options nearby. Possibly check out in Ayr? I managed to get vegan ice cream from there the other day, the ice cream shop right in the town centre, Renaldo's.

There are no vegan restaurants nearby or in the local area. There's Chef's World Buffet in the village so it might be worth checking if they offer any vegan options although I've been there and as a vegetarian there were... More
