It is exactly what you would expect. There is a lot of history here in the area with the Civil War being a part of it good bad or otherwise. It's great for people to come and see the Graves of soldiers that fought for what they belive in, right or wrong. A country that forgets it's history is very... More

The Confederate cemetery is within a much larger area cemetery. Most are graves of unknown soldiers with a large memorial with the names of those who died in the area battles.

We didn't realize when we came to see this landmark cemetery that the soldiers buried here came from several very famous battles in this and the Chattanooga area. There is a lot of history associated with it. We did notice that there were a lot of unnamed gravesites.

Very peaceful and always well maintained. It is a shame there is so much history in the area and so few know about it.

as a boy scout we placed the stars and bars flag upon these headstones. 4 yankees are laid to rest here segregated from their confederate opponents. this is a small cemetery, gated with steel fence around a newly added large granite monument recognizing the local service of all conflicts from the area. oak trees provide shade and if haunted their... Most folks know little or nothing about the role Dalton Georgia played in the American Civil War. Many of the men lying in this cemetery died of wounds in battles around Chattanooga, TN, like Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, and Ringgold Gap. Almost all the graves are marked 'unknown'. As for our town, Dalton was captured by the Northern Armies... More

A friend from Atlanta came to Dalton for a visit today. She wanted to see some of the local sites. We stopped by West Hill Cemetery - she's a history buff - and checked out the Confederate Cemetery. Though I've been there many times before, I'm always impressed by how well kept this section is. The historic markers, statuary are... More

A Civil War buff would like this. The cemetery is a well-kept plot of land that is fenced in the middle of a much larger cemetery. These may have been the original graves that started this cemetery. The four unknown Union soldiers are off by themselves. The four known Confederates are marked and sprinkled amongst the rest of the unknown... More
