Overview
More
'A Welsh garden with a Dutch history', Cae Hir is the extraordinary creation of Dutchman Wil Akkermans, whose family history in Dutch horticulture stretches back over 200 years. Covering 6 acres of Welsh hillside, this RHS Partner Garden unites a meandering stream and water garden, species rose garden, bonsai collection, local slate stonework and innovative formal features into one informal and unpredictable whole.

We had a lovely morning walking around this unusual garden. The lawns and beds were showing the results of the hot weather but then the architectural beauty of the shrub and tree planting shone. It’s on a slope but so many interesting ways around we...More

Thank you for your review. It's been (and is!) a tough year in the garden, moving from a sodden winter of perpetual rain to an arctic blast courtesy of the 'Beast from the East' to the current drought conditions. The garden has certainly suffered, but...More

We visited yesterday and were saddened to see the state of the garden after so many hot dry days. The beds were either gone over or shrivelled up. The grass was brown and dusty. Little colour remained. We know that this probably couldn’t be helped...More

I am sorry you thought your visit was a waste of money. Obviously we have no control over the weather, and have had no significant rainfall for over 2 months, hence the dry state of the garden. However, we are doing all we can to...More

I don’t think it would be suitable as it’s on a considerable slope. It is also very dry and withered at the moment.

Dogs do need to be kept on a lead but they are allowed into th gardens and they do put a tub of water for them to drink in the cafe area.
