The sarasota Opera combines all the necessary elements to deliver a superb musical experience: a wonderful selection of singers, accomplished musicians in the orchestra, uniformly good acoustics, comfortable seating and a central location that is close to plenty of parking and public transportation. The Opera's management excels at producing performances that are well above what one would expect in an... More

It doesn't matter whether you are an opera aficionado or have never seen an offer before in your life… Sarasota Opera is world-class! From the facilities which have recently been updated to the world class maestro and artistic company. You won't be disappointed! I attended all four productions of the Sarasota Opera winter festival. The opera house is just 1200 seats, acoustics and sight lines are very good. Excellent variety and very strong singers. Would highly recommend this company if you are visiting Sarasota.

My wife and I are avid opera fans and often go to the Met in New York. We were quite pleased and surprised with the excellent performance of L'amore dei tre re starring a young super talented soprano by the name of Elizabeth Tredent. Her voice and stage presence were astounding. The production was top notch and the other performers... More

Site: A Grand Old (early 1900s) Theatre, now beautifully converted into a first class Opera House. Repertoire: All of the world's greatest operas. Artists: Consistently very, very good. We saw performances of An Italian in Algiers and Madame Butterfly. They were both brilliant. Don't miss this opportunity to see Opera at it's best.

The Sarasota Opera is housed in the 1926 Edwards Theatre Building which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building has been fully restored and offers excellent acoustics, seating and other amenities. Now in its 57th Season, the schedule is a full one. I recently saw Madama Butterfly and thought it to be excellent! The scenery was... More

The opera performance was great but my night was ruined by extremely cold air conditioning in the balcony and an usher who stood in the aisle blocking my view of performers taking bows at the end of the act. I politely suggested he stand off to the side until the bows were completed but he rudely said that it was... More

My introduction to Sarasota was on the very first night I visited in 2000, I walked up to the box office bought a ticket and was hooked ever since. We had a subscription at Chicago's Lyric for years, have attended operas in other cities, even other countries and our Opera company is truly top drawer. Tonight we attended Madame Butterfly... What a wonderful production! The set was an absolutely beautiful Japanese home and they did wonderful things with the lighting. The soprano (Butterfly) and tenor (Pinkerton) had excellent voices that filled the theater and had the audience thrilled. A must see if you are in the area. The theater itself is fantastic, no bad seats and a lovely intimate theater... More
