We didn't really have this on one of our things to do, but was intrigued by the opportunity to see old surgical tools. When you first walk in, its actually a self guided tour of the case in the entry way. You look through some of the various tools they used. They also have two rooms, that you are able... More

I was really looking forward to this after working as a hospital nurse for 45 yrs. The collection of surgical tools and medicinal herbs was fantastic. However, the tour was actually a lecture and it went on for over 45 min.The lady was very knowledgeable and spoke without any notes. However, her voice was loud and her descriptions of amputations... We found the tour to be rather fascinating. Yes, the description of surgery can be rather graphic, but you're warned of that going in. Celeste was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun. We were fascinated how the practices of medicine used then that are still used now (just modified).

We wern't sure what to expect. What we got was a tour, conducted by an extremely knowledgable lady, who gave us great insight into medicine as it was practiced during the time St. Augustine was under Spanish control. We saw a complete display of physician's tools of this era. We were shown how the tools were used. We learned about... More

Very well done tour with great history. I learned a lot about medicine, surgery, and apothecary. It was interesting to see how far the Spaniards were in their knowledge. I'd would highly recommend this tour.

My elementary grade daughter had done a school project on this hospital so we knew a bit more going in than most visitors, i would say, so naturally we had to check it out. It's a very quick walking tour with a few rooms laid out in the period of activity with artifacts (fascinating!!) included. Your tour guide brings you... More

Great experience. Being a nurse I really enjoyed this tour. Our guide was awesome I felt. Would recommend it if you like medical related things. Prepurchase tickets at welcome sites for a slight discount.

A small museum, this museum graphically depicts what health care used to be like way back when. Guides show the surgical instruments and describe the surgical procedures in detail. They also describe the medicines used. A small garden has the plants commonly used back then for remedies. So if you are okay with graphic details, then you might want to... More

This is a unique tour and opportunity to learn some history of medical care. Having done this twice, different tour guides can make a difference.
