We were told, during an Old Town Tram tour to be sure and see this site. We almost walked by it as we were wandering the city. I'm glad we stopped. It's free and contains a wonderful history of the area with stories, graphics and artifacts. In less than a hour I learned the history of the area, in a... More

What a great little museum. Lots of exhibits for the history of the area. The building itself is a historical treat.

As part of our downtown walk about, we entered the museum. The staff were very friendly. There was much more inside to see and I enjoyed the exhibits.

This was a great place to stop and escape the rain for a bit in the afternoon. It includes information about the earliest people living in the St. Augustine area. There is a dugout canoe and information on how they were built. There are some nice, quiet activities for small children (colour your own canoe paddle, etc). It won't take... More

This museum is housed in a restored 1930s government building and is easy to miss on a walk in downtown St. Augustine but is very worthwhile. Exhibits on the history of the city are informative and visually appealing. When we visited the museum, a special exhibit on canoes was showing and is first class--varied and comprehensive. Children would also find... More

Definitely a must see while in St Augustine. Even though it is in the center of town it is easy to miss. Really excellent interpretive material about the archaic and post-archaic canoes found at Newnan's Lake near Gainesville during the drought of 2000. Additional well done displays on canoes and paddles from other Aboriginal cultures throughout the Americas. And did... More

We stumbled upon this museum and are grateful that we did! It had very informative exhibits appropriate for nearly all age levels. It had a couple small scale take home activities as well that the kids did participate in. There were some good photo opportunities for everyone. I was pleasantly surprised at this museum and our kids enjoyed many of... More

Great building housing a free dugout canoe exhibit. Extremely kid friendly. Nice place to get visitor information. Building is also used for wedding receptions. The King of Spain gave an address from the east balcony in September 2015 just as his father had 10 years previously.

Very informative on the history of dug out canoes and the 100's found in Florida. Very informative exhibit with a lot of information on the archaeology involved. The caretaker was very friendly and helpful to us. Free of charge.

The University of Florida set up a museum in the middle of the city. Free admission! It had interactive things for children (design your own oar, pullies & flaps). My son enjoyed the canoes. My husband and I enjoyed the history. It was a really great stop, and nicely air conditioned.
