This could have been a great adventure but the ferry from the mainland to the fort is out of service, so the only views are across the river from a distance. Visitors center and video are good.

The ferry was closed for repair but the park was lovely and the history was displayed along with a map, which made the trip worthwhile.

Got this one mixed up with the Fort in St Augustine. The ferry was out due to the storm and we weren't able to actually go to the Fort. It was still neat to look at from the other side. There is a walking trail, but did not go on. I loved the trees there and took plenty of pictures.... More

We have visited quite a few forts and Fort Mantanzas has done the experience right. Rooms are set up with era related items, the kids really understood how each area of the fort was used. The history is well documented with clear signage, but with different themes to draw you in to the story. The Park Rangeres were available and... More

We had went extremely excited cause we had never been here. Come to find out the hurricane had damaged a few things. But I loved the nature walk, it was really nice.

If you're a history buff you'll enjoy this. It was the first real moat (water drained) I have seen up close but looks pretty shallow. The view of the coast from the fort is also pretty but I left wanting to know more and wish I did a tour.

It was designated a United States National Monument on October 15, 1924. Fort Matanzas guarded St. Augustine's southern river approach. At the present time the ferry service that transport (free) visitors to the actual fort is closed for repairs until further notice. This is due to damages occurred during Hurricane Matthew in October 2016.

I went to Fort Matanzas expecting to be bored, but it was impressive in size and rich in history. It was easy to imagine what life would have been like all those years ago.

We enjoyed visiting the Fort and the grounds. It's amazing to us that so many people were here at one time to proctect themselves from war! The gift shoppe is nice also.

A little walking around and a lot of breeze on the upstairs level. Go enjoy this old fort and learn about the back and forth between the French, Spanish and finally the US. There are modern bathrooms there. Otherwise no concessions but none are needed. It can be done in an hour. Mind the signs and stay off the walls.
