Dolphin Experience > Don't go, I went as a teenager and I found it disturbing, even more so after seeing their treatment of marine animals in blackfish. It felt wrong to me at the time, and the dolphins were covered in scars - something I questioned the trainer about who said 'oh this is just how they communicate', it's actually called raking and is a sign of aggression. The dolphin I "rode" was covered in these scars. Don't go, don't give them money and contribute to the continuation of this cruelty, I wish I hadn't.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your last visit. After reading your concerns about the dolphins in our care we are compelled to give you more information about the care we provide. Discovery Cove’s dolphin facilities do not just meet government standards, they far exceed them. While the three large lagoons next to the public access area are easy to see, you might not have taken in, that in all there are 14 pools that the dolphins have access to. Our dolphins do indeed interact with guests but are never forced to do so. They can choose to swim to any of the many sanctuary environments provided throughout the day at any time and are choosing to participate in the interactions. Each day, our dolphins all receive a diet based on their individual physiological needs, and they receive this diet regardless of their behavior. As mentioned, raking is a natural form of communication and aggression is not necessarily the catalyst. Our dolphins like all dolphins in the wild use this behavior for many reasons. I hope we have addressed your concerns and if you have additional questions, we are always open for Guest inquiries. We are incredibly proud of our park, our animals and our Ambassadors and 100% open to all Guest questions. Please feel free to contact us directly at DCO-GuestRelations@DiscoveryCove.com.

My boys and I ages nine and ten went here. It was honestly the best place I have ever visited. All the areas were clean, the workers were fabulous. This place really is worth the memories and the food was great!

We just returned from a trip to Orlando and we LOVED Discovery Cove. My 3 teenage girls loved the reef, feeding the birds, and floating the beautiful lazy river. My tween son doesn’t love fish but snorkeled in the lazy river and the bigger pool area for hours in between pretzels and slushee breaks. He was in heaven. We chose not to do any add-ons and it made it so relaxing. One of my girls took a 2 hour nap on the “beach”. We were there early (probably could have shown up around 8 and would be fine instead of 7:30) went straight to the aviary when it opened and it was hilarious being attacked by the birds. We could have spent hours following the rays around. It really was so fun and even though it is not a huge park it was so nice not having pressure to do tons of things. I highly recommend!! My parents tested positive for covid right before the trip and so they didn’t come and discovery cove has given them a year to use their passes even though it was a last minute cancellation- which I felt was fair.

I had the best time 3 weeks ago while visiting Discovery Cove. I highly recommend upgrading your package with The Seaventure and Dolphin Swim. Not only was my trip fun and relaxing, the food was outstanding. I had salmon for lunch and the chef prepared the salmon so good I thought I was at a 5 star restaurant. If you want a break from the Theme Parks this is a must. I spent 2 days at Disney and 2 days at Discovery Cove and Sea World.

Went to Discovery Cove over the Christmas Holiday and had a amazing time. We did the Dolphin Swim and the Elite Cabana package and will do both again when we go back. Even spending all day there we did not see everything there is to see. A few things about our trip: 1. We got there right at opening and were assigned an 11:45am dolphin swim time. This worked great for us as the water was freezing and a later win time allowed for the sun to come out and be a little warmer. 2. Breakfast was just OK. 3. We had a cabana over by the great reef. This worked out well for us because that is where we spent the most time, but was quite far from everything else. 4. The only real disappointment was our cabana attendant. We finally saw him at 12:15 when we were getting out of the water from our dolphin swim. He said he was looking for us all morning which I could not figure out because I had been in the cabana all morning. I asked for more water and some more towels. He brought the towels but never brought any more water all day. We only saw him 3 times that day. When we were getting out of the water, when bringing some towels and he came in at the end of the day to say good-bye and collect his tip. 5. In the winter, the water in the dolphin swim and reef is COLD. The water in the lazy river, however, is very warm. We had a blast and we will definitely go back and hopefully will get better attendant next time.

Thank you very much for your kind review and glad to hear you had a great day overall. I would like to follow up on your comments regarding your cabana host. If you could please email us at DCO-GuestRelations@DiscoveryCove.com and in the subject line please direct to my attention. If I could get your first name, last name and date of visit I would very much appreciate this. We are very proud of our park, our animals and Ambassadors and I want to ensure all Guests receive the very best experience in all aspects. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experiences. Fun Fact: The dolphin lagoons and Grand Reef are heated in the winter and chilled in the summer so it remains 72-74 year round for the health of all the animals. We hope to see you again in the near future.
