Long hidden on the fringe of Florida's Gulf coast and overlooked by developers until well into the 1880s, Naples' catalyst for settlement finally arrived forty years later when two rival railroads rolled into town within ten days of each other.

Set in Naples' restored Seaboard Air Line Railway passenger station, the Naples Depot Museum welcomes visitors back to the railroading boom days of the Roaring Twenties and explains how generations of Southwest Floridians used technology and transportation to conquer a vast and seemingly impenetrable frontier.Seminole dugout canoes, a mule wagon, antique swamp buggy, restored rail cars and exciting interactive exhibits tell the story of how trade and travel transformed Naples from a napping village of 300 souls into today's glittering Gulf coast resort.

The Naples Depot Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is conveniently located in downtown Naples.

By far, this is the best historical exhibit in downtown Naples, Fl and it is free! Where else can you go on a rainy/cloudy day and entertain the whole family! The place is chocked full of local Naples and Collier County history and the kids don't get bored while viewing the exhibits.

The historic old train depot is loaded with history -- it's own and that of the Naples area. It's not glitzy, but there is a lot to see inside and out. Admission is free as is parking. We learned a lot about Naples' boom and bust history and especially the history of train service to the area. They did a... More

The depot museum offers free admission, and although it is a small museum, there are several interesting exhibits that are very well presented. The highlight for our family was the Lionel train museum that shares a building with the depot museum. This is only open Thursday - Saturday from 10am-2pm. There is a $7 admission for adults, but children 5... More

This is just off Hwy; difficult to find entrance - lots of parking once you find it. Entrance is free - staffed with volunteers - labour of love for them. There is also (in the back) a small gage railway but check and see when its running as there must be a volunteer to run it. (11:30 to 2PM) in... More

We took our 2 and 3 year old kids here and they just loved the place - they didn't want to leave. We took two rides on the little train around the grounds - big fun for the kids. Then went and saw the exhibits in the museum and finished off by spending almost an hour in the miniature train... More

Great place to come to get out of the heat. Full of history of the area displayed in the former depot. A caboose is sometimes open to view. Great steam train comes into view from one of the rooms which is very fun. If you are going around to learn history of the area, this is a must visit.

This has a great deal of the history of Naples not just a railway depot, someone should get a hold of this museum and develop it in a major site. Naples has a wonderful colourful history and needs to be shown off more, in my opinion.

I stopped here during a work trip to kill a bit of time and get some culture. It's a very nice museum and I thought it was enjoyable. This is definitely a county museum with a lot of local and Florida history, so don't expect to learn much outside of that. The guy manning the desk didn't say anything to... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the museum and it gave us fresh insight into transport and it's development in the area. I would recommend a visit to a very good facility.
