The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve represents one of the few remaining undisturbed mangrove estuaries in North America. The Environmental Learning Center is a 16,500 square-foot facility with four research laboratories, classrooms and 140-seat auditorium, and two story visitor center. The visitor center offers a variety of hands-on experiences, including 2,300-gallon aquarium and NEW Estuary Encounter interactive marine life exhibit and other displays addressing research and stewardship efforts ongoing within the Reserve, as well as a nature store, gallery and picnic area. This is an absolutely beautiful facility. The people working were very friendly. They were informative without being pushy. We skipped the trail after a warning about mosquitos, but we did venture outside and across the bridge. Inside, there is a movie on constant replay about...More

Don't let the $109 per person cost deter you from taking this tour. It's a remarkable education with views & information available in a setting rarely available. We'll be back for another tour on our next visit. Don't miss out on a wonderful opportunity.

Very kid ( ages 4,6) friendly with see thru fish tanks where you can go “underwater” , all sorts of fish, crabs, lobsters, etc. Full size manatee and shark. Lots of birds. Short, easy 1/2 mile trail through the swamp.
