Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

What a great place to experience nature. We saw a red-shouldered hawk pick a fish out of a wet spot, two gators having a disagreement, countless songbirds, and cypress trees over 500 years old. Because of the long Florida drought, the usual 5' of water was just a couple of shallow mudholes, but the walk on the boardwalk through the... More

The boardwalk is an easy stroll through many shady areas. Both strollers and wheelchairs can easily navigate the trail (we saw both). The swamp was pretty dry this month but we still saw raccoon, alligators, and a hawk.

We saw water snakes, gators along with a lot of baby alligators, lots of amazing birds and some pretty geckos. There is so much to see we could easily stayed longer but ended up running short on time as we had booking we had to get too. We spent over 2 hours there and could have easily stayed longer. It... Helping to restore the Everglades and part of the Audubon Society, this attraction is a great place to see all kinds of animals and birds. As well as cypress trees and catch a glimpse of what Florida would have been like generations ago. A must see.

We visited on April 14th and saw more than a dozen really tiny baby alligators. Very cool! Much of the normal wetland is dry due to the drought, but it was still really cool to visit.

On our family vacation to Marco we decided to take a day off from the beach and take the nearly one hour drive to Corkscrew. What a great experience. It's an easy 2 mile walk on the bog above the swamp. We took our time so the walk lasted about 2 hours. We saw hawks, lizards, egrets, raccoons, many alligators,... More

Our admission was for two consecutive days so we visited twice. The boardwalk physically is second to none. I recommend going very early in the morning and do bring binoculars. Birding requires quiet and patience ..the facility does a fine job with their very helpful volunteers and signage (including laminated cards which are posted as needed on the board walk).... More

This is a great down day destination. Don't rush and take time to really look around. The boardwalk is a little over two miles long and winds through the sanctuary in a loop. It can get buggy, so be prepared. $3 binoculars rental worth it. This was our second visit - you can see different things depending on time of... More

We arrived at Corkscrew Swamp at 7 am on a weekday and walked the entire boardwalk....about 2 1/2 miles. We only saw 5 other folks the entire time. So beautiful and serene! The swamp has very little water these days so we did not see any alligators but we did see dozens of birds. Highly recommend!

We love this place and bring our family when they come to visit. We have seen so many interesting wild animals! The walk is so relaxing and just the right length. Love the boardwalk!!
