- Ryan3 contributionsGreat Miami Beach Walking Tour with HowardHoward is a wealth of knowledge of all things Miami Beach ā Jewish and otherwise. The tour is interesting, fun and very informative. From general information about the history of the Jewish community in Miami Beach to obscure fun facts, Howardās tour was incredible. Highly recommend!Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 April 2023
- Passport230921237311 contributionAwesomeBeautiful and informative. An interactive look at the history of Jews in Miami, especially Miami Beach, and our institutions. Plus I got discounts and priorities as an FIU Student. I am so glad FIU helps fund this treasureVisited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 27 April 2023
- Miriam C1 contributionOur Jewish Museum Marvelous Tour30 friends from Parkland, FL thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU. Our docent, MISSY KISHEL was outstanding. She was warm, friendly and so very knowledgeable. She welcomed us and kept everyone's attention. We learned a great deal about the early days of South Beach and the impact of the Jewish people. Missy made the afternoon so enjoyable. We were so engaged that it when it was time for us to leave, several of us said we would like to come back. We highly recommend this museum tour and especially recommend learning the history from Missy Kishel.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 12 May 2023
- LoriSaysAlexandria, Virginia7 contributionsJewish Walking Tour Tells Vivid TalesHoward gave us a two hour walking tour of Miami Beach. He is a great storyteller, relating tales about the Jewish community, people behind its growth then and now, and interesting architecture in South Beach. I will not soon forget, for example, the story of the 5th Street Gym, "Evil Eye" Finkle, and Cassius Clay (before he became known as Muhammad Ali). A very enjoyable time!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 May 2023

I was in town for a family wedding and did not have the time. However, I found out later that the Museum was the synagogue where my parents were married in 1940. I then took a screenshot, and also made a donation to the museum in their memory.Visited November 2022Travelled soloWritten 5 August 2023
- LadyJRSMinneapolis, Minnesota2 contributionsGem of South BeachWonderful. The museum has so much rich history, not just for the people that it represents, but the rich history of how they built Miami Beach. Way way more informative about the rich history of the Art Deco architecture in MIami Beach, than the actual Art Deco Museum. Very sweet woman who worked there was able to really explain the history of the former synagogue and MIami Beach, as well as the art on display. I am in love with the current exhibit by Anita Rabinowitz-Goldman. Very emotional, detailed and thought-provoking. While in Miami we visited several museums and this was by far one of my favorite. A definite must-visit.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 November 2023
- Jocelyn T1 contributionGreat Experience! A Gem on thĆ© BeachāThis museum offers a stunning, deco-era building; a fascinating stained glass collection; ongoing, top-notch art and photo exhibits; AND Howard Brayerās talks about all manner of Miami Beach history and architecture. You will want to hear ALL his lectures, including historical highlights of local scandals, the Jewish population, and Deco design, and then go tour the actual neighborhoods and buildings and SEE the features with Howardās expert guidance. A must-do stop on any visit to Miami Beach !Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 4 November 2023
- Christina1 contributionA special experienceThe museum itself was wonderful and held so much history, but the best part of the experience was the tour itself. The woman who led me through the museum was so passionate about the space. The kind of passion that overflowed in a way that I could have spent the entire day just listening to her stories. A beautiful experience and special gift on my trip.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 4 November 2023

I had a great time at the museum. I went for a history talk by Howard Brayer, he was very knowledgeable and a very pleasant person. I learned of the history of Miami Beach which I never knew. I have lived here over 30 years and had no idea the Jews have contributed so much to Miami Beach. I loved it, I recommend for you to stop by if you are in the area.

We visited Miami on a day when the museum was closed, but we were still able to schedule a lovely hour-long talk with Howard Brayer, who graciously shared his research and knowledge about the history of Jewish life in Miami. Highly recommend.

We attended an illustrated lecture by Howard on the Jewish history of Miami beach. A fantastic talk, remarkably informative in understanding Miami Beach. We were able to schedule the talk to fit our schedule, couldn't have worked out better. Howard also provided great advice on other things to see and do that we might have over looked absent his advice. A highly recommended experience.

An unexpected bonus during our visit to the Jewish Museum were 2 lectures by Howard Brayer about Jewish history and the architecture of Miami Beach. Articulate and engaging, Howard's presentation was excellent!
The museum , located in 2 synagogues, has colorful and symbolic stained glass, and features displays of cultural , historical, and religious significance and exhibits about anti-Semitism. Had we not been limited on time, we would have watched the audio-visual presentation on individuals and families projected in the original synagogue. We'll have to come back for that and the other 2 lectures by Howard , 1 on GLBT culture, and 1 on past criminal activity in Miami Beach.

As is often when you visit something like this the place comes alive because the volunteer that takes you around cares and gives you so many stories. The lady who showed us round had just come back after several months away and she was fantastic.
There are enough things to see but it would only take you 15 to 20 minutes, we were in there well over an hour as she told us all about South Beach and how the Jews weren't allowed to own property outside of this area and how it all changed over the years ... just fascinating.
They also had a really great shop there where I spent far too much! They shipped it for me ....
