Spirit Snorkeling of Marathon – providing daily snorkel trips to Sombrero...

Spirit Snorkeling of Marathon – providing daily snorkel trips to Sombrero Reef & Pirate’s Cove. Specializing in families and first time snorkelers, our friendly crew will take you on a fun filled adventure to the either the Sombrero Reef Marine Sanctuary and Lighthouse or to our special location on the Florida Bay—Pirate’s Cove. Sombrero Reef is the third largest barrier reef in the world and this beautiful 30 acre coral reef ranges from 2–30 feet deep with thousands of tropical fish. The Sombrero Lighthouse was built before the Civil War and today still helps mariners navigate the Keys with its light. Coral Reefs are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems on earth. They are second only to the tropical rain forests in the number of species they harbor, and indeed are sometimes called “The Rain Forests of the Sea”. You haven’t really seen the Keys until you’ve seen our under water areas. If the weather is too rough to go out to Sombrero Reef our dedicated crew will take you over to Pirate’s Cove, where the water is generally much calmer. Here you will see many species of tropical fish, under water plant life, lobsters and even sea horses. The water is quite shallow, making it a perfect spot to snorkel. Even sightseers enjoy our trips as many species can be seen from the boat. We take no scuba divers, we only go to shallow water snorkeling locations and Back Water Eco tours.

Had great day snorkeling Sombrero Reef with Captain Ray and First mate Kim. Safety was their #1 concern and having fun came in close behind. They provide some history regarding the lighthouse, reef and 7 mile bridge

We had good weather for what sounded like the first time in a week or so. The captain and the woman who helped on the boat were both wonderful - informative, casual, had everything we needed. The gear was nice enough and the water was clear. Beautiful fish, some coral. Would recommend as a great way to spend half a... More

This was a first time snorkeling experience for our group, and we all loved it so much, we wanted to go a second time before leaving the area. Sombrero Reef was beautiful... not a long boat ride out from our starting point and a bit deeper than I'd expected. The water was not the most clear on this day, but... More

Captain Dave and our dive master were fantastic. Water clarity was a little cloudy because of the previous days of big waves. Very enjoyable in spite of swallowing a wave through my snorkel.

Despite the unusual weather for the area the captain took us out to Sombrero Reef. Some people spent the majority of the time on the boat feeling sick which was a shame because they missed some great wildlife. Lovely colours, lots of fish visibility would have been slightly better without the waves but that's nature for you! Lots of man... More

We always don't get that perfect snorkel day, but so glad you enjoyed seeing all that Sombrero had to offer. Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback. More
