A must see for first generation Cubans!!! My girlfriend is Cuban and thoroughly enjoyed this along with her family. It is only open I believe once a week so you will have to try and catch the doors open. I believe your best bet is Sunday's.

Stop in to the San Carlos Institute and learn more about Cuban history and how it is tied to the Key West area. While you are there make a donation as it is run by voluntters.

Beautiful place packed with history! Well worth going in and I learned so much more than I thought I knew. A/C is cold and even better if it's raining out! Very interesting!

Our hop on, hop off tour guide pointed this site out to us when we were cruising down Duval Street. He complained that it hadn't been open and he didn't know why and that, "There's alot of cool stuff in their!". On one of our later walks down Duval Street, it was opened and I'm glad we went inside. We... More

This house is a slice of history right before your eyes. When you enter you notice the grand hall and the 12 foot doors that are original to the property. I will venture to say the whole property is original. It is full of Cuban and key west history and tells the story from Cuban Independence all the way to... More

The San Carlos Institute is an incredible venue - concerts and Cuban history. I had just come from a week tour of Cuba and was thrilled to gain some additional knowledge on the self-guided tour.

The historic building houses several exhibits on Cuban history. There are two floors to tour. You will be greeted by a friendly historian who provides interesting facts before you continue on a self-guided tour.

We passed this place while strolling down Duval Street and chanced to enter. We were treated to a very interesting and informative discussion on the history of Cuba, and Cubans in Key West. There was no entrance fee to this lovely old school that is now a museum and cultural center. Alex gave us all sorts of tips on good... More

While we visited San Carlos for a private event, we enjoyed the architecture and Cuban history. Free admission makes it affordable for everyone! Definitely a must see for everyone visiting Key West.
