Once the U.S. Navy opened a base in Key West in 1823, it became apparent that a lighthouse would be needed. In 1848, with a woman lighthouse keeper, the Key West Lighthouse opened and operated until 1969 when it was decommissioned by the U.S. Coast...More

When visiting Hemingway's house, you should stop at the Key West lighthouse and keeper's quarters. totally affordable and in just 88 steps you get a great 360 view of Key West. Even for those with a fear of heights, it isn't too bad. Just go...More

The lighthouse is well worth a visit for the view. We found the museum of brief interest, but more for a brief pause. Great views from the lighthouse once you have climbed the stairs to the top and if you are thinking of visiting Ernest...More

We visited this attraction to learn additional history of Key West and were not disappointed. Although somewhat small display-wise, the pictures and narratives were very informative. The spiral stairs to the top of the lighthouse might be a challenge for a lot of folks, but...More

We went up to the top today which we've done for the 2nd time. Great views! Not many steps and the museum is wonderful.

Worth the hike up the 88 steps to be able to see 360 degree views of Key West...try and go before 11 or after 3 since the sun can be a factor. The museum and lighthouse keeper's quarters are very interesting as well

Trek up and down those 88 stairs is not for the faint of heart! It's especially challenging if others are going the opposite way you are. Lol. Spectacular view from the top of the Lighthouse and the Lighthouse Keeper's house is full of artifacts and...More

I'm a collector of lighthouses, and I knew when we set foot in Key West, that the first place I had to see was the beautiful Key West Lighthouse. And, oh how beautiful it is. They keep this lighthouse and the keeper's quarters in perfect...More

If you like lighthouses or want a great view of Key West, this is for you! The 88 stairs of the spiral staircase are not the easiest to climb, but the view is worth it. The top of the lighthouse is small, so not many...More

This Lighthouse Museum is nicely done! The Keeper's Quarters not only has period pieces to show how the Light Keeper's lived, but also has a very nice history of the lighthouses in the area. There is a fee to visit, but to us it was...More

I believe it was $10 a person. However, I am a Coast Guard Veteran and they admitted me and my family for free.

Unlike some of the other light houses this one does not have landings to rest on. I have a bad back and weak legs, and asthma, it was a struggle for me but i made it and it was well worth the struggle.

The stairs are very very narrow, it can be a little frightening passing someone going the opposite direction. There's really no where to stop to rest. But I wouldn't necessarily say it's really steep.
