MOEC is an ideal place to learn more about the Treasure Coast's unique...

MOEC is an ideal place to learn more about the Treasure Coast's unique environment and its inhabitants, including the endangered Florida manatee. Inside, an educational film, various aquariums, a touch-tank and interactive displays are enhanced by wonderful volunteers. Eco boat tours are available along with a wildlife observation tower which provides visitors a bird's-eye-view of Indian River Lagoon. MOEC is situated at the mouth of Moore's Creek which is a popular spot to see visiting manatees during colder months. There are 400-500 manatees living in our area year-round but, considering their backyard is 156 miles long and connected to a multitude of creeks and canals, it is never guaranteed that they will be visiting the center at any given time. MOEC is supported by donations, memberships and the proceeds from its gift shop The Vanishing Mermaid.

Nice place to visit and walk around. We stopped here before dinner and enjoyed seeing the Manatee's and walking the boardwalk. Nice to see the construction work that will enable the animals to navigate around their natural habitat better.

This is a very small facility with a informational video telling you about the Manatee's. Unfortunately the video was difficult to hear due to noise from the reception area. However there were no Manatee's to see since they have moved on for the summer months. There is a nice gift shop attached to this Center, and at this time of... More

This is an observation area where manatees tend to congregate. There were no manatees when we visited, but we have seen them other times. This is a small place and not worth a special trip, but if you are in the area, it's nice to see.

Great little place to stop in and view a few sea creatures and learn about manatees. They have a very informative video on manatees that is a must-see (there's a little "theater area" for you to view it). The workers / volunteers are exceptionally friendly and the gift shop is filled with many lovely treasures! The only negative was that... More

We arrived at the Manatee Observation and Education Center and within 10 minutes we were assisted by a volunteer who gave us a tip where we could see a manatee and her baby in the onsight marina. What a beautiful site they were. We've shared the pictures of our experience since, and others we talked with went to the same... More

This is a small but well run stop. We spent less than an hour here. There are tanks with various Florida fish, turtles, and even a snake. The volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable. There are touch tanks, microscopes, seashells, and a coloring table for the kids to play. It is not guaranteed to see a manatee, but it is well... More

While visiting Ft Pierce .. wife and I stopped to visit. Entrance charge was $1 .. consider it a 'donation' to support Education Center. Located in a nice area .. plenty of free parking.. right on waterfront. Alot of info on Manatee .. but .. don't expect to see any or any videos of them. Best area to spot a... More

Thank you for your visit and review! We do our best to educate our visitors about the threatened Florida manatee and its habitat, and hope that you had a chance to visit our indoor exhibits. There is a special theater room where we loop an 18 minute welcome video outlining the history of the manatee and the establishment of the... More

Went this past weekend with my 12 year-old daughter, 20 year-old son, & his 19 year-old girlfriend. We weren't able to spot any manatees from the observation deck this time, but as a true born-&-raised Floridian, I know that can happen sometimes. Besides, what was inside the center was plenty of fun in itself! The people are extremely friendly &... More

I love supporting places like this. There is an admission fee of 1.00. Totally worth it! There's plenty to do. Great place to take little ones.
