I love lighthouses. Always have. We happened to see this one while traveling down Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach. We looked up the location on Google Maps and was taken to a dead end in a residential neighborhood. So we visited nearby Fort Clinch and I asked the fellow at the information desk how to get there. He showed me... More

We saw the Light house from the Fort Clinch. We did find the development it was in and drove up the walkway. But gate was tightly locked and it was in someones back yard. Kinda a shame you can't walk up to it to take photos. And learn about the history while visiting.

It's tucked away in a neighborhood and kinda hard to find. It's also smaller than we thought. You can't go in it but guess we're glad we saw it. Found out it's the only double walled lighthouse.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, or at least it wasn't when we were there. We took a boat tour and they said a lady broke the light while cleaning it, and it can't be repaired. There were a lot of grass and trees overgrown, so it's hard to get a good pic of it. I don't think... More

Twice a month you can go up it on Wed but you have to book it , On the Saturdays the grounds are opened from 11- 2 . You have no access to the top but you can take nice photos and stand near it .

I was a bit disappointed that there are no regular tours of the lighthouse (I believe it's only per appointment one day of the month). It was nice to view it from the overlook in Ft. Clinch St. Park, so at least I could snap a few pictures from the marsh side.

The city provides guided tours of this lighthouse. The Coast Guard civilian flotilla provides instructors. They give a detailed history of the lighthouse as well as a lesson in how lighthouses are used by mariners. Extremely interesting. Unfortunately, they don't allow you to the top of the lighthouse. Well worth the time we spent.

I love to visit as many lighthouses as I can and this one met all expectations! They do have certain times that they open it up and allow you to climb inside. Just wish it was hidden by so many trees.....can only see the top from the road so we drove up closer and got to see it much better!... More
