This area has a very interesting history, culture coming in from extremely different groups of people. I always recommend going to local history museums to get a bigger perspective. This museum has the start of several good exhibits but needs professional refinement of the displays....More

There's a lot of history to such a small little area but for maximum impact and context, I would recommend doing both a self-guided tour as well as the complimentary docent-led tour as well. These are individuals that know the history of the area and...More

We spent about three hours wandering the museum and heard a delightful docent tell us about the eight flags that have hung over Amelia Island.

This small museum is packed with interesting exhibits and artifacts about life in this area. There is information about the African-Americans who lived within the city and how the area was before, during and after the Civil War.

If you go to the Museum of History you will really enjoy your visit to Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach. It gives a great overview of the people and nearby places so you will understand the things you will be seeing. Highly recommended.

A smallish town museum located in the old Amelia Island jail, but very well done. The effort put into making the exhibits was evident. The location is off the main street of the Historic District, but is worth tracking down and spending an hour or...More

The Amelia Island Museum of History has a few of the artifacts in the Spanish Mission exhibit and History Miami has a few others, the bulk of the artifacts are housed at UF.

I have a friend who gets seasick. Doesn't this boat stay in a bay? We will be there in mid-April. Thanks! Kathy

The Amelia Island Museum of History is actually part of the original old jailhouse. (Very unique.) Amelia Island does offer boat tours, but one has nothing to do with the other. :)
