This is a small museum like local history museums tend to be. The exhibitions were beautifully done, had the clever touch of a "scavenger hunt," and even a tour guide on a Sunday! I would recommend that everyone stop here to really understand the area.

Since we fell in love with Amelia over the weekend, we decided to check out the museum before heading home. What a treat! I liked the fact that there were places to sit and rest (I have a leg issue) in between. This allowed us...More

We took the 11:00 AM docent tour of the museum. We were told about the eight flags that have flown over Amelia Island. Fascinating history.

We were directed to the museum by the visitor center employee and told the next tour with docent that was very familiar with the history of the island was beginning soon and would last an hour. The guided tour ended up lasting almost 2 hours...More

Must hear the history of this island from Mr Keating a docent and island resident. It will enhance your stay to know all that came before your visit there.

Put together by locals who care, this history museum is professional and well filled. The docent rounds out with great stories. On our own we did get confused with the order, but who cares?! We loved it all.

Good museum with the basic area history and info. It's want you would expect and something you should do

A small museum housed in the old jail - the history is well-presented via artifacts, information boards, photos and recreations. A mini "lecture" is also available (informative but a bit long).

The Amelia Island Museum of History has a few of the artifacts in the Spanish Mission exhibit and History Miami has a few others, the bulk of the artifacts are housed at UF.

The Amelia Island Museum of History is actually part of the original old jailhouse. (Very unique.) Amelia Island does offer boat tours, but one has nothing to do with the other. :)
