This can be a fun day of exploring. You can hike, camp, or cabin here. No swimming though, the place is popular for gators too. I will say the squirrels are ablittle too friendly. If you aren't careful they will take you food right off the picnic table.

The "ferry" across the river is basically just a pontoon boat, but it's well-captained and convenient. Once on the island, there's camping, hiking, biking, fishing, and kayak/canoe rentals. Or, you can just chill under a tree and eat lunch.

This is a very enjoyable place to visit. We did not get to finish our walk because our daughter was scared of the bugs flying around. But we very much enjoyed the tranquility of this place.

If you need a pool, or a place to swim count that out. We went with three other families and it was a great way to bond. We packed way too much stuff, and took our gas grill which wasn't needed at all. It was much funner to cook on the grill pit provided. We took plenty of mosquito repellant... More

Several years ago, I took my son on what I thought was going to be a great day at a nice park. We took the ferry over to Hontoon Island. Ferry ride, first rate, great start. Packed a picnic lunch and play at the park, still a great day... Where I went wrong was I took him on the nature... More

Took my girlfriends grand daughters there to play on the swings etc. THEY love the boat ride over. The little museum is nice for kids and adults to see some of the wildlife and history there.

Hontoon Island is a great little park. It tends not to get overly busy. A free shuttle boat takes you over to the island, but can only accommodate parties of 5 at a time. Once on the island you have access to grills if you choose to cook food, public restrooms, a children's play ground, covered pavilion and campgrounds. Yes,... More

My husband and I rented a shanty boat (Talisa) and cruised the St. John's River. We ended up spending a night at the marina Hontoon State Park by default. What a great find that was! Showers and bug spray! We were so grateful! We traveled further up the river and then decided to come back to Hontoon for our last... More
