The beautiful Port Boca Grande Lighthouse sits at the Southern most tip of Gasparilla Island and is located within Gasparilla Island State Park. The oldest building on the island was built in 1890 and saw five Lighthouse Keepers and their families make this beautiful structure home. The Light marks the entrance to Boca Grande Passe and is still an active aid to navigation today. It currently houses a beautiful history museum and gift shop operated and maintained by Barrier Island Parks Society. Barrier Island Parks Society's mission is: Preservation, Education, Conservation, and History. While there is no admission fee, it is operated on donations. Your donation at the front door and/or your purchases at the unique museum gift shop, keeps the Lighthouse open to the public and provides for many educational programs throughout the four local state parks; Gasparilla Island State Park, Cayo Costa State Park, Don Pedro State Park and Stump Pass Beach State Park.

This excellent little museum provides an excellent insight into the history of this lovely island. The development from a phosphate outlet via a railway line and pier, changed to become a tourist magnet, with high end hotels and restaurants. The island is now the base for the rich and privileged, but don't let that put you off - the island... More

Be prepared for a long walk over un-even shells to get to museum and then lots of stairs. Elevator is NOT functional. Small gift shop with over-priced items. Museum is only good for history buffs.

We have visited the lighthouse many times in the past 3 years and enjoy it every time. The history of the railroad and the pass in the museum is fascinating. The view of the Gulf and the pass from the lighthouse is different every time. If you are visiting during the Christmas season, be sure to go to the Lighting... More

Lighthouse and museum are very neat. We found parking to be in short supply but a value at $3-if you can find a spot- short walk to the beach but the tides were terrible the day we visited so we did not enter the water- flags stating no entry were present

Loads of local history coupled with sea life facts in this historic lighthouse. There was a docent who shared fantastic information laced with stories of the area. We stayed longer than I thought fascinated with the artifacts, photos and displays in this chocked filled space. Although we climbed the steps to enter the lighthouse there was an elevator that could... More

Small but full of history and great little exhibits for kids. Also a very nice gift shop with jewelry, books, t-shirts and lots of educational and fun things for children. Incredible views of the Boca Grande Pass from the wrap around porch.
