It made it very hard to enjoy.--- The first time, the tours were guided and so informative. There story is so complex and the home so full of very interesting artifacts and historical bits. We stopped here on our way north to Boston. We only had a couple of hours and we ended up depriving ourselves of more of a chance to enjoy this wonderful property. The house itself is amazing in size and design with a floor plan that was unique for its time. The furnishings are all original, definitely unusual for a... More

We were looking for an activity to fill a few hours on a weekday afternoon in Wilmington and Nemours hit the spot. This is truly a gem on the outskirts of the metro area and should not be missed. Plan for 2 to 4 hours depending on how much time you want to devote to the mansion and gardens. My... More

Alfred Dupont designed this Mansion with all things French for his second wife. The rooms are elegant and the docents knowledgable.Enjoy seeing a clock and chandelier that were once Marie Antoinette's. Visit the basement for Dupont's innovations for the house, high technology for that time. See the garage full of his antique cars, and take the the long walk to... More

We visited ta lovely mansion that held many interesting artifacts Some included a clock commissioned for Marie Antoinette and a chandelier from a home where she grew up Although a guided tour for the first and second floors was not offered,.. Many docents were present and were very knowledgeable. A tour was offered for the basement where we learned about... More

Unlike other Dupont properties in the area, here the mansion showing how they lived is the star. We were free to roam the house unescorted. Knowledgeable docents were available in most rooms to answer questions. You do need an escort to visit the basement game rooms and equipment rooms. The early 20th century technology is a strong highlight in this... More

We toured Nemours on a sunny day and the experience was magical. The home is rich in history and the docents were all so knowledgable. Having access to all the rooms left one with the feeling that the family truly utilized each space for themselves and the guests who visited. We were quite concerned about a recent change in policy... More

Most people in Delaware don't even know this place exists. Many people think the DuPont family had this built, but again they are very wrong. This entire home and gardens was built because of love. Alfred's second wife was a very world women, quit beautiful and loved all things French. Alfred wanted to make her happy in anyway he could... More

It is amazing to visit this mansion since you can meet part of the history of Delaware but the most impressive thing is to see the advanced technology for the period that the built it.

Let's keep it real for a second or maybe more. The Nemours Mansion & Gardens is hands down the biggest piece of historical land I've ever explored. The history behind it is quite simple; it was a gift from Alfred Dupont to his second wife, Alicia. I KNOW! Can I get an Alfred too? Any who, the estate is about... More
