Stop by and view this monument, on the north end of the boardwalk...it provides details as to who Verrazzano is, does a bridge in New York sound familiar?

It's something to stop and look at for a minute or two if you're walking by. Mildly interesting. Done well. Not something to go out of your way for.

We came upon this monument when we were riding our bikes on the Rehoboth Boardwalk one morning. We stopped and read about the Explorer who discovered that area. History buffs will enjoy the monument very much, and it may encourage further research about Verrazzano!

So not a spectacular monument, but it does impart some information and in a brief and to the point way. Not necessary to make a special trip, but if you're strolling on the Boardwalk, it's worth a stop and see.

Interesting lesson in civics and identity politics here. The monument is inconspicuous and the plaque is reasonably informative. The story of why the monument is in Rehoboth Beach is for more interesting. You see, Giovanni da Verrazzano never landed on the DelMarVa peninsula. He may...More
