Paved roads. Forest paths. Water. Birds. The two MDC reservoirs in West Hartford are places of beauty, peace. They too are places to run, bike, exercise a dog... Do some wildflower hunting.

The West Hartford reservoir is close and beautiful! You can spend a good portion of a day taking in the public areas and walking portions. Very clean and beautiful.

Beautiful area. Plenty of room to hike, jog, take your pet, and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Saw my first snake here. Seemed to have the same idea, although it wasn't jogging.

The reservoir is a great place to take your family for a walk, picnic or bike ride. The view is beautiful and the trails offer an opportunity to exercise without the rush of traffic going by. Although parts are under construction now,it's still worth the...More

We went there on a weekend and it was somewhat busy. The views are spectacular and I felt safe. You are still near town but have the feeling of being secluded. Many people bring their dogs for walks as well. You will see quite a...More

On my map, I see reservoirs 4-6 in West Hartford. Are any of these the same as the listing on Trip Advisor?

For all the information needed, go on-line and look at Reservoirs/The Metropolitan District. It provides maps for #4 with public entrance from Farmington Ave., #6 public entrance from Albany Ave., Rte. 44. There is more... More

It is usually open to sunset. But I would recommend checking by going to website for the Connecticut Metropolitan water district. This site gives trail maps and phone number you can call.
Which is the trail that goes around the reservoir?? Went for first time today and started walking red path---did not want to go all the way--and doubled back....then started yellow one. To me it is confusing and there were no maps or where each trail begins (and how long it is) anywhere. Am I missing something??

I agree..there should be some maps! I stay on the bike marked trail. It took me completely around. I can.t say how long it took because we stopped at the picnic tables by the reservoir and had a picnic lunch.
