Anyone interested in American art, especially the Impressionist period should stop by the museum and spend about an hour or so. There are always interesting highlighted displays as well as the Griswold House itself that wonderfully showcase the talents of those artists that spent some time in the area. A must see.

I brought my son here and we had a wonderful day. He loved the scavenger hunt in the main house and the find me & drawing exercises in the Art Museum. The artwork that was on display was really random, and exquisitely captured on the different mediums. The museum attendants were very attentive and knowledgeable. The price was right for... More

A 21st century gallery has been added to the famous home of Florence Griswold to make this museum a true destination. In spring summer and fall, enjoy the gardens and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along the banks of the Lieutenant River. Or, have a delightful meal at the museum's own restaurant with outdoor porch dining in good weather.... More

This lovely old boarding house is so very well preserved you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. Noted artists of the American Impressionist Movement, such as Childe Hassam and Willard Metcalf stayed her, hosted by art lover Florence Griswold. There are works of art by various artists in the house, as well as the amazing dining room, with wall... More

The place is set up to illustrate the boarding house where the genteel Miss Florence held court-and provided a warm and welcoming base- for the American Impressionist Art Colony in the early 1900's. Many of the furnishings have been donated back to the Museum by previous owners , lending an authenticity to the house-and the careful application of researched information... More

This is not just a delightful museum in quaint New England. It is important for a complete understanding of a movement in painting a century ago, and it has the flavor of when its contributing artists resided and worked there. It is full of fascinating details and genuine surprises, such as (for my tastes) the supremacy of the "Colorist" group... More

If you want to be reminded of the beauty of the holidays - plan a visit to the Florence Griswold. We are members and were interested in seeing the newest palettes added to the Artists Trees for their Magic of Christmas 2016 program. It really is a magical experience and the museum offers a array of holiday activities for all... More

We have lived in CT all our lives but have never visited the Florence Griswold Museum. We visited yesterday and were really impressed. The ladies were very informative. We definitely return again the the summer to enjoy its beauty.

The venue is beautiful. The guides within the museum are very knowledgeable and me the experience extra interesting. I had baked chicken and risotto with truffle oil which made me return the same month and order the same luncheon.
