I spent a wonderful SAturday on Lake Zoar! It was very busy with many boats and families tubing, but there were also kayakers and people just swimming in the very Refershing water. It was also interesting to see a patrol boat out ,keeping an eye on everyone.

Beautiful lake created by a dam built about 1919, called the Stevenson Dam. Great for cruising, with miles of wooded shoreline. Good fishing for bass and panfish, too. Eichler's Cove Marina in Newtown has a boat ramp and docks, as well as picnic tables.

The lake is formed by a dam and as such the water quality depends on whether the dam owners allow enough water to exit the impound to keep the algae under control. Whether they do or not depends on the demand for electricity which is the purpose of the dam. For several years now they have waited too long resulting... More

While I've enjoyed time out on Lake Zoar boating and fishing, and fishing from shore, for over 30 years.....I have to say that the fishing has never been very fulfilling. The lake was formed after the hydroelectric dams were built, flooding the original Housatonic River above and between the Shepaug and Stevenson dams, creating a famously debris filled body of... A hidden gem of a lake, about 80% of the shoreline is forest. Try visiting Kettletown State Park or the State boat launch in Southbury

Visited this lake in July of 2014 from Wisconsin and felt right at home. Has a great up north vibe and the people are very friendly. We enjoyed time out on the sand bar!

Food was at best OK and the wait staff are more interested in their cell phones than waiting on customers. They do pay attention to the few regulars they have, but ignore everyone else

Lake Zoar is an attractive lake but it isn't easily accessible for visitors. Visitors should seek Newtown's beautiful walking trails, which provide a Short Escape from the urban areas of New York and Connecticut. Walks are also highly recommended on the main street with the flagpole in the middle of the road. You'll find Victorian houses, historic Edmond Town Hall... More
