The Monte Cristo Cottage is the summer home of Eugene O'Neill's family and the setting for O'Neill's greatest play, Long Day's Journey into Night. Perhaps, America's greatest dramatic play. Very moving and spiritual place for O'Neill lovers. You should take the guided tour so that...More

Probably an essential destination for Eugene O'Neil fans, researchers, Irish-American history buffs, and people who are part of the broader theatrical community. If one isn't any of the above, the Homestead is of questionable attraction. That includes children who might be in tow. The O'Neil...More

I stopped in front of the cottage just for a quick picture. It is significant to see the lovely place where Eugene O'Neill lived and probably was inspired.

Nice to see. I wouldn't go to far out of my way to go here just for this. I have read that New London just considered him just a common drunk. If you go stop in at the Dutch Tavern on Greene Street. Has not...More

We enjoyed our tour of the house, which gives the impression of being frozen in time. You really get a sense of what he might have experienced living here.

We stopped here on the way back, and was shocked so few people were in attendance at our only American playwright to win a Nobel Prize. The lovely house is right across from the bay and the guide, Mary (appropriately), ushered us into to view...More

Open only for limited hours and days, but well worth a visit. The scene of several great Eugene O'Neil's plays and his boyhood summer home. Owned by the O'Neil Theater Center and staffed by knowledgeable guides. A real treat for theater buffs.

Being in the cottage where America's best playwright lived as a boy was sensational. This house was the scene of America's best play, Long Days Journey Into Night.
