Description:

Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in America....

Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in America. The Gallery’s encyclopedic holdings of 200,000 objects range from ancient times to the present day and represent civilizations from around the globe. FREE and open to the public. On December 12, 2012, the Yale University Art Gallery celebrated the grand opening of the renovated and expanded museum. The expanded Gallery transforms the visitor experience of both the museum and its esteemed collections. The project united the 1953 modernist structure designed by Louis Kahn, the 1928 Old Yale Art Gallery, and the 1866 Street Hall into one continuous structure while maintaining the distinctive architectural identity of each.

A terrific university art gallery with some majorly impressive major works in its collection. And it's absolutely free to the public! Can't get much better than that! The Yale Art Museum spans the gamut of ancient art to modern, textiles to art deco. It also has a number of paintings by my favorite American artist Edward Hopper outside of the... More

A university town with heritage buildings. The museums of Yale University - Peabody Museum, Yale British Art and Yale Art Gallery are worth visits. Taking a stroll in one of the most stunning campuses is worth the train ride from New York City.

One of the must see attractions in New Haven. Opens little late. On the day of our visit it opened at 11:00am. That gave us opportunity to visit British art gallery across the street. Big collection of arts. Don't miss if you are in New Haven.

We visited with friends who wanted to see Art and Industry in Early America: Rhode Island Furniture, 1650–1830, an exhibition showcasing cabinets, chests, chairs and other pieces from the colonial and federal periods. This style of furniture is not a personal favourite, but I could appreciate the craftsmanship, and it was interesting to learn how Rhode Island’s economy and way... More

Was in CT and NYC recently and knew Van Gogh's "The Night Cafe" was here. Why not stop in and see this masterpiece? I figured it would be a quick visit. Wrong! Being a major art fan, I'm embarrassed to say I had no idea how good this museum is. The breadth and quality absolutely blew me away. And one... More

We were there when there was a special exhibition of RI furniture and clocks (I think it runs until January 2017), and since I grew up in RI, I was very interested to see it. Really beautiful collection, enhanced by videos showing how the furniture would have been made back in the 1800s. Unbelievable, with no power tools! Also an... More

An incredible exhibit of Early American furniture from Rhode Island. An extensive collection of modern art - French impressionists, cubists, etc. We spent 3 hours in the Gallery and only covered half of it.

We decided to visit the museum while visiting my daughter. Amazing collection! We were in the museum for 3 hours and still didn't see everything.

This gem has a great collection for a university gallery, and the visiting exhibits are unique. We went specifically for the Asian art and a special exhibit on 17th and 18th Century furniture from Rhodes Island, and we thought the presentation and supplemental information for both exhibits were first rate. We stayed for almost exactly an hour, but we could... More
