Amazing views, free parking after 5 pm right along the coast line and some great points to take sunset pictures.

On the campus of UConn Avery Point, its a nice spot to come and take a short stroll on a summer evening at sunset. As you enter the grounds bear to the right towards the Thames River and you will see a driveway closer to the river that angles up a little knoll. There is public parking along this driveway. there is a brick paved path along the river side and curving off the East with beautiful views across the Thames to New London, out to the New London Light and Long Island Sound and of Fisher's Island and Fisher's Island sound. Nothing particularly impressive about the lighthouse, but Branford House, the mansion overlooking the lawn towards Fisher's Island Sound is quite pretty and is often host to weddings. Area is like a very compact Harkness Park.

This lighthouse was located on the campus of UConn near a mansion that resembles the Hogwarts castles from Harry Potter. It does cost $1 an hour to park in metered parking. You can't go inside the lighthouse. Walking around campus and the views of the water were worth it, though!

I was a little shocked it was on UConn's university campus because there wasn't any mention of that on anything I had looked at. Once you get there, it really isn't marked out on the direction you should go, so I was a bit hesitant just walking around by myself. It is a beautiful campus and area.

Not much to see - however the view of the Sound is decent and the grounds of the college are nice. At the time we visited, the area was a fly-way for Monarch butterflies making their annual migration.

Went out to Avery Point, located on the UConn Campus to watch the sunset on a beautiful evening. We use to come out here when we lived here 33 years ago. On the weekends parking was free and not crowded at all. We walked around the paths looking at all the art work displayed and sat out on the rocks overlooking the sound watching the ships and ferry's go by until the sunset. We walked down to the lighthouse but you are not allowed to go inside.

If you're looking for a relaxing evening that costs nothing, then this is the place to experience it all with the family or someone special.

A must-see! We were lucky that we saw this on a gorgeous sunny day. The lighthouse really stands out against the deep blue water of the Atlantic. Since the lighthouse is on the Marine sciences campus of UConn, you can also walk around the campus and visit places like the art gallery at the Bradford House, a beautiful Manor. Definitely recommend for the views!
