My friends and I were in Farmington to tour the Mark Twain House. We stayed at the Farmington Inn and other guests recommended Hill-Stead Museum to us. We were so glad we took their advice and visited the home. The tour guide shared the history of the home and its owners with us. How interesting that the home was designed... More

The house is located on a hill with beautiful vistas in every direction. It is remarkably well preserved with a new addition of solar shades on the windows which dramatically reduce the light damage previously done to textiles and wallpaper. Although we visited on a chilly day, the house was kept at a warm comfortable temperature allowing guests to fully... More

Lovely views, gardens and grounds. Very interesting family history including period furnishings and excellent art pieces. Art includes Monet, Manet, Degas and Cassette.

Got there in time to wait 30 minutes before the next tour. Watched the movie and looked at the gift shop. Didn't need to go into the house.

Hill-Stead is a beautiful house and museum at the center of a wonderful property that provides incredible views of the Connecticut countryside. The museum houses a collection of impressionist art by Monet, Manet, Degas and Whistler among others. As you walk through room after room of period furniture and Pope-Biddle family heirlooms you can get up close and personal with... More

First, it's a house; the former home of an industrialist. Some interesting pieces of furniture and a few Monets, along with some other nice works. Nothing to write home about. The guide was really annoying.

It has been so inspirational learning about Theodate Pope Riddle. She left a lovely historical home with wonderful art work and architecture for us to enjoy!

Hill-Stead is a treasure. The architecture of the home is wonderful and the art work is superb! Our docent was knowledgeable and entertaining. The grounds are worth a visit on their own!

Hidden gem in Connecticut . Get up close and personal with priceless works of art , without barriers and crowds . These works of Art never leave the home of the Pope- Riddle family , so the only way to see them is to visit them in there original setting .

Hill-Stead Museum is a treasure in Farmington. The 150+ acre estate is open to the public for walks, hikes and general enjoyment. The home itself, which can only be seen by guided tour, is a work of art. It is a mansion that feels warm, comfortable and inviting, an unusual combination for such a large formal home. It is filled... More
