What a beautiful experience for the kids and adults alike for the holidays. It can easily be turned out into a family tradition. Went with my sister's children who lives in CT and my two teen girls. We were only an hour away. They really enjoyed the hour trip in the train where they were entertained by all the characters.... More

Well organized fun for little ones with a constant parade of characters coming thru the cars. Each spends time with every child and poses for all the pics you want. Hard to get great pics with all the folks in the background however. It's a big operation with 9 to 10 cars on each train, but it all runs smoothly.... More

This year my son was able to organize enough people to fill car on the North Pole Express. It can be a bit of a hike from the parking lot for small children and older adults. They have a small gift store and restaurant. They have restrooms to use before the train boards. There are two cars on the trains... More

We just returned home from a scenic ride on the Essex Steam Train Santa Special and had an amazing time. We brought our Grandchildren aged 4 and 1 and enjoyed seeing their eyes light up with excitement when Santa arrived. They also marveled at Pablo the Penguin, Comet the Reindeer, Christmas Mouse, all of the Elves and Mrs. Claus. They... More

This activity was cute but I don't really understand why people would do it more than once- especially year after year. While it was fun and they play music on the christmas adorned train car I thought the actual visit from Mr and Mrs Claus was nothing special! It leaned toward "musical theater" which I'm not a fan of to... More

The only train that I have ever been on that you meet people...play a game and the views are wonderful...But if you want to sit in first class ..make sure you give yourself plenty of time before you board...prices are right!!!

Ask me how many times we have been here!! Let's see, our first grandchild was born in 2005...oh, wait, OUR kids!! It has been a pleasure watch this place grow in information and ridership over the years. From the time we arrive until we leave, all the men and women who work here are "into" their parts. (Probably because first... More

Excellent experience for all on board. Young and old the railways are all part of our heritage. Cross country to the suburbs the train stop meant you were there. You can pass it by or get aka. debark the platform. Your choice.... As far as one can see we are river people and love to be close to her from... More

We have lived in Connecticut for more than 20 years and have always seen this trip advertised. We finally decided to try this and hopefully be entertained while taking in the fall foliage. So the train ride is an hour round trip. You get great views of peoples backyards. yawn. Mid way you get herded onto the riverboat. The biggest... More

This is a ride on a real steam train. The setting is circa 1920, and the first thing you hear when you get out of your car in the parking lot is music from the period. It's a beautiful ride down the Connecticut River past Gillette Castle. We went during leaf peeping time, and the views were wonderful. Just a... More
